i would pay a dollar to see someone legitimately race DH at fontana on one of those shoe cycles. disc brakes and you're good!

you could even go with 5.10 wheels for extra traction in the rocks

I dont think there was a beg/sport courses that required a full DH bike. Some of the Ex/Pro courses I could see wanting the bigger bike.

i think the 951 is overkill even for fontana. i think a light built bottlerocket would be nice. my specialized pitch weighs in at 32 lbs and is going to be my biek for fontana this season. i used to race a 39 lbs 7" bighit. but now i have my demo and its way to much for fontana in my mind.(well most the time)

Actually, your theory was tested at the World Championships in Australia this year. In a way, the track there is similar to Fontana, not so technical, really a hill not a mountain, and there's the pedalling part at the end.

Sam Hill, Specialized, opted to use the SX trail (6in bike) instead of his Demo. Peaty, on the other hand, still used his V10, but they optimized it for the track and pedalling, stiffer suspension, smaller brakes, 10 cog cassette, and a semi-slick rear tire. Guess who one?

If budget is an issue, instead of getting different bikes to suit different tracks, get one versatile, do all, DH bike, like the 951, and just tune it for the different races. Also this way, you'll be used to the feel of one bike, instead of swapping bikes and spending time getting used to the new bike. You can use that re-learning time to get to know the track better which is more important.

I myself agree with the Duff. Also lets hear from the guys winning at Fontana, and see what they are riding. Im sure most people that will tell you what to ride and how to ride it never even place.

When you absolutely, positively, HAVE to kill the lawn in 10 minutes or less.

That is a lawn mower right?

Comparing Steve to Sam on a course that require pedaling and no real tech makes no sense. Same bikes different bikes I would bet on Steve on that course.

I would have to agree fully on that one. Steve can out pedal most anyone.

You could ride the same bike Eric Carter does, and have a different result. It's not about the bike it's about the rider.. And a shorter travel, very nimble, pedally bike will suit the average rider at Fontana better in my opinion.
