The 2nd annual Bike for Bender 6 Hour Challenge is just 2 weeks away. This is a course on private property and is only open to ride for this event. If you've ever ridden the SART, this course is less than a mile away from the Glass Rd trailhead. The trail is very much like the SART, but steeper in sections and a little more technical. See the video below for an idea of the course. There's another preview video on the website.

Bike for Bender is a non-profit that raises money to help support cycling, trail building, high school mountain biking, as well as cancer research.

I'll also add that the Hell Ride will be on again this year. Probably a similar date as last year, but we won't nail down the final date until after the 6 hour race sometime.

This sounds like heaps of fun and for good cause. Will I be correct in assuming that the proceeds collected from both events will go to the same cause ?

Yes, you are correct. Once all our expenses are paid, everything we raise from all our events goes in our account and is then dispersed to the groups we support (some right there at the event during the awards ceremony).

Looks like that 6-hr course is right next to SART. Is that whole area open to the public for riding? (I can't make this event.)

I am pretty sure that the race course is all on private property and the only time to ride it is during this event.

Yes, it is private property and only available to ride for this event. The property is owned by the Boy Scouts and is used for programs they have all summer. One of which is a mountain biking program that we are helping them get off the ground.

If you're on the fence, I would say come up in the morning and plan to race. If you get up there and aren't really feeling it, then you have 30 miles of SART to ride instead.

    Looking forward to this Saturday.

For those on the fence....This is a real mountain bikers course. It is not something that a fit roadie can jump on a mountain bike and do well on. The entire course is challenging. It is also a very well run race (last year was the first year and it ran smoother than a lot of other races I have been to). The only bad part about this race is that the course is so tough that it is hard to ride for the full 6 hours!
