So I guess I should have stayed home yesterday. First run got stuck in rut and had a little slide out get off. Had a great second run adjusted my suspension and tire pressures and finally felt dialed in. Had a great third run, well at least until I got back to the plaza. Started to put in a couple hard cranks to jump a planter slipped the chain and tipped over the bars and hit the pavement pretty hard. We all took a lunch break then headed back out for more fun. Completed the difficult part of the run, hit town trail to head back and snap there goes the chain. After a couple more uneventful runs we decided to finish off the day with a cruz down pine knot. I was pretty tired and was taking it easy on the climbs to make sure I didn't hit the wall. Once we started downhill I new I would be able to catch up if I pushed it. Once we passed the campground Chewy had stopped to make sure I was still on track. I passed him and started to take off again. Certainly didn't make it very far. I see a fallen tree that the trail goes around. Unfortunately the tree hides a moderately sized rock that you need to slow down quite a bit to get between them. Well I didn't and came to a rather abrupt stop and to add to the pain the bike landed on top of me. Chewy says I screamed like a stuck pig. After gathering my whits he left me to head back up to the camp and see if someone could help us get off the hill. Thank goodness there were two guys that were more then happy to help us. After about a half hour we arrived at the hospital. The last few minutes of the ride were agonizing and it took everything I had to stay conscious. After some xrays a dislocated and fractured humerus. Once my shoulder was popped back into to place the pain relief started immediately. Going to have a follow up with my Dr this week and start with a recovery plan. Again I can't thank Chewy enough for his help. He was willing to do almost anything to keep me as comfortable as plssible on the drive to the hospital. All five of my riding buddies hun out at the ER waiting for thw news. Thanks again: Ken Ron Jay Bryan Aaron. Will post pictures and updates once I get on a real computer.
lordy, lordy, and all this from a dude named "chewy". how comfortable could that be, hope it wasnt all teeth j/k healing vibes, brutha.
Dude, Sorry to hear about that. When we heard you went down we were hoping for the best. Hope all goes well given the circumstances. Here's to healing quick and seeing you on the trail again!
So sorry to hear of that. Paying your dues in mtn biking can be ever so painful. I was with Chewy when he wrote the check. So when Chewy says he knows how it feels... he really does. Get well soon.
Awwww Dave.... Sorry to hear about that. Hope you heal up quick. Maybe one of these days I can meet you for lunch.
I shoulda taken a pic of you all wadded up, but the compassion and "knowing your pain" took over.... You would have done the same for me pal. Let me know when you want to borrow the "man-zere" shoulder brace. Holmes went from about to pass out to I'm fine with no drugs..... TOUGH MOFO
Man that sucks! I'm so sorry! Better here than in Oregon though 'eh? BTW, were you surrendering a baby perhaps?
I thought I heard something about chewy helping him with his recovery... not sure what that meant though :-k  heal up man. it's gonna suck, but it will feel great when you can finally get back on a bike. until then, collect as many sweet biking films as you can and get your stoke on. I've got follow me if you don't already have it
No way!! I think I saw you guys at the start of the day. I had no idea. I totally empathize with your injury and the path to recovery you're are about to begin. Back in early March I dislocated my shoulder and fractured the rim of my glenoid bone (the socket the humerus sets in). Had surgery 2 weeks later. Had many weeks of physical therapy but doctors and therapists were great as I'm sure they will be for you. Saturday was my first day on the bike since the accident. I was fortunate to not only NOT reinjure myself but to spend it with friends who were there with me the entire road to recovery. My unsolicited advice (based on experience) is to be patient as you heal and listen to what your body tells you. You may think you're ready sooner (I was impatient) than you are so stay in touch with your doc and get their advice because reinjuring it before it's completely heal I've been told is worse than the original trauma. Hoping for a full and speedy recovery!!
