I read recently that the guys who own the ski lift nex to Mtn High were checking into insurance so they can open during summer for mtn. bikes .Maybe thats the alternative to Big Bear. I to miss the days of summer seasons passes . Why is it just lift riders and not the local downhillers making new trails . 2n10 will be like the 91 fwy with no lift.

I read the new owners got the permit back and the ski resort is operating.

This is great news for the local ski scene. Waterman has some pretty challenging terrain plus good out of bounds skiing. "Ski the Top" baby!

How is the riding in Big Bear? Looking at the map it looks like there are a few pretty lengthy trails but are they fireroad trails? single track?

If you were to compare Big Bear trails to trails at Aliso Wood canyon, what would Big bear most parallel?

    Thank you

The Yellow are fire road the purple are trails. There is no comparison to Aliso. The runs in through the trees and can be quite lose in some parts.
I would take BB over any trail at Aliso any day. The runs are long fun and no climbers to worry about coming up the trail.

if anything, you'll get crap from the rangers if they see you on some unmarked/illegal trail. and depending on your bike, you may or may not be able to take the lifts up to the top. me and kyle biked to the top at night, it wasn't bad at all. his bullit is damn heavy too.

I've ridden up there more times than I can count. I've ridden every single trail within 5 miles of Snow Summit (legal and illegal) dozens of times. I've only seen a ranger twice. One of which I was on my big bike. They didn't seem to mind our presence.

The only people that will give you crap is the snow summit employees and maybe the guys at the Marine Corps recreation area if you are riding through their camp. The rangers didn't seem to give a flying Chinga.

I expect that the bike rules will be heavily enforced this summer. If you really want to ride a DH bike, you can easily shuttle up the fire roads if you have a sturdy truck or SUV. The gates are always open.

One day I had my bike on the back of my car and was on my way up t marshall canyon....this motorcycle pulls up next to me and tells me "If you ever wanna ride some real trails come up to Baldy" he said he was a lift operator up there...I took my son hiking up there and kinda checked out the trails.....only thing I really saw was a fire road and a pretty loose lookin single track that runs directly under the lifts. Anyone ever taken that single track?

you dont actually ride snow summit, you ride the trails of the national forest, any bike can ride all the trails, but using the lift is another story, its a WEIGHT issue, snow summit does not own the trails ridden...
