haha, nice, forgot about that one.. depending on how manly you are, that may be 2 grams to 10lbs..

or i guess 6. GET A CARBON BIKE!!!!!!

no point spending money on an existing bike making it lighter with all the stock components. will take a TON of cashish to shave off any significant weight.

Get a light one to begin with, xc race/carbon then you're instantly 7-12 lbs lighter..

Quite an array of responses... I personally like my testes and other body organs right where they are!

IMO, if your going to care that much about weight, start with a frame thats stupid light. Nest, as others have mentioned, wheelset and tubeless tires. Then shave grams on components if you want. I don't think your going to notice grams from components as much as descent wheels though.

Are you still inflating your tires with helium? Switch to hydrogen. It's lighter and that hindenberg thing almost never happens to mountain-bikers!

    I've gone Dino...

... It was so hot today(90 by 9:30), I bolted on a bottle and went sans-camelback. I felt so light! No friggin' tools or pumps or tubes. Full TDF! Rode up to JPL and did the lower section along the stream to the waterfall. I still sucked wind but it was a lot easier without the 12lb pack! Coming back it was full moto, with no pack it was way more fun off jumps! Dino, I think I've seen your light! I may never carry anything but water after today, at least in this heat.

    Really?

Are you having problems pedaling a 30 lb. bike? I'm just curious as that's a lightweight bike for heavy duty trail riding. If you just want a lightweight cross country bike, then you have bought the wrong bike in the first place.

No big deal, but realize that you will spend a lot of money to shave weight on an already lightweight build. Is it worth it? Or could you just get used to it???

Well, 5 months in...did you have any luck dropping weight from either you or the bike?

Hey, I dropped 5 lbs this year.
Lets do the weight weenie value added calculation on that:

    2,267 grams x $1.00 = $2,267 dollars saved!

Divided by $7 pints at Beachwood means that I can drink over 300 beers on 2010

Well, almost Mark...it means you can drink 300 MORE beers.

Only 300 beers in one year? Who does that?
