They've rebuilt the BMX track at Bellflower over the past week. Although the track is rideable, they're still working on it. There are a few sections that still need to be packed down, and the all-new starting gate is at the powder coater. They also layed a concrete slab on the gate pad area. They'll have some temporary lighting for practice this Thursday, but they're also working on getting some new lighting installed.

I helped out briefly on Saturday, and I was blown away by the new layout. It's quite a bit longer and a lot more technical the faster you go. Jumpers will love it, but everything is still rollable (there were many 5 year olds practicing it on Monday). When finished, this track will be one of the hottest tracks in the state. Seriously, this track is awesome!

Because many of the locals will be at the national in Reno, Bellflower will be closed on Saturday, but it will be open for practice this Thursday.

On another note, the Orange Y was also just rebuilt, but I haven't seen it yet.

wow. better than I had anticipated. you're right, it looks like if you've got the skills and balls to clear all of those jumps, you're gonna be flying around that, and leaving people in the dust.

I should try and get out there in a few weeks...

I heard from a former NAG 1 cruiser guy that it is amazingly difficult, as in maybe a little too much.
He equated it with a set of trails, with a start gate.
He said all of the jumpers will love it. People who pedal, not so much.
I haven't been there to see it myself.
    Doesn't matter, I'm just a bonker anyways.

I know there are a lot of kids in the area that love the track. I don't care too much for the complex in general, but the track looks great.

Tonight they're open for practice from 5:30 to 7:30. The gate's at the powdercoater, but you can still start from the starting hill, but there's plenty of track to practice! I'll be there tonight on my Black Market Mob.

My only needs of the complex are a parking spot and restrooms, and those are fine. I've never been in the paintball area, so I can't comment on that.

In regards to the Orange Y, I've heard that as well. Keep in mind that one of the guys working on the track (Freddy Chulo) is a dirt jumper, which makes sense.

Partly, but it's mainly because my back is still recovering, and I tend not to "pull" as much on the mtb so it's better for my back. I will say that it is a bit more challenging in the rhythm section with the larger wheels, since the jumps are fairly tight. I haven't been on my cruiser since my back said "no more" at the state race at Bellflower in June.

So I went last night and WOW is that different, bigger, more technical and much longer.

Its going to make the local who ride there all the time FAST, it was a bit overwhelming at first but after a few laps it was do able but not nearly as comfortable as the old track. They still have some spots that need to firm up, there are a few sand traps that made it harder to carry speed on a track that seemed harder to carry speed already.

Can't see myself riding it quite like some of those guys, but I've got to get down there soon.

    I'll be there tonight!

jcw, I'm sure you know, but few mortals can ride that track like some of those guys. I think one of them is reigning 16 Ex world champion Nathan Padilla (the first to jump the jump into the first turn as mfoga mentioned).

Good times at Bellflower last night!

Since I haven't been on my BMX bike in a few months, I'm just riding my Mob.
