I guess I'm a little allergic. I got stung last Sunday and broke out in a big rash and a lot of swelling. It's going away finally though. Still itch's a lot though. We got hit one ride going up Winter Creek. I got hit 5 times and still have lumps where I got stung and that was over 5 years ago.

Now I know why there's a shortage of bees....there all stinging us.

kanga thant sucks about the stings. I have had solo stings and they were quite bothersome, can't imagine what 20+ would be like! Yikes!

    Still a great rr.

You're lucky you didn't break an ankle if that was the terrain you were running in.

So I went back there today and hiked the section of trail El Pres and I were looking for. It would have been really hard to find if we had run out of daylight and we were literally 50' from the trail (on the wrong side of the river) when I got stung. I plan to go ride the loop (with about 1 mile HAB climb up the Grizzly Trail) sometime soon.

I didn't have another run in with bees, though I went right past where it happened. After three nights of no/bad sleep because of the itching and swelling, it has finally subsided tonight.

The three river crossings are pretty hard to distinguish, and there's not much of a trail on either side of the river:

The trail is about 50' past this section:

Once on the other side of the river, the trail is easy to pick up:

Trail has some severe slides about 1/3 mile from the top:

Lots of the trail is up a tree-covered riparian canyon,
full of those pesky little flies:

    And the requisite PO:

    Great views from the top

Like all good San Gabe trails, there's some pretty serious exposure. This edge is about 100' almost straight down:

The final creek crossing on the way back:

I'll be looking at doing a Rim of the Valley/Haines/Stone Canyon/Grizzly Flat/Crescenta view loop of Lukens in the near future if anyone is interested in some bushwhacking adventure...
