4 hours and some change. There's two places to fill up (baldy village and East Fork/39 junction), but bring as much as you can anyway.

did GMR to Baldy the other day solo. After all that climbing the downhill on Baldy was over way to quickly. :-k

shouldn't be more than 55 miles. If you can get through the first 8 miles up to Baldy Village, you'll be fine. A couple of bailout points too (go down GMR instead or turn around and bomb down Baldy). I had you and Zach in my mind when thinking of this route.

There will be climbing coming out of the canyon and it's usually into a headwind.

And as of now, the 39 is closed in both directions because of the fire. We'll see what happens I guess.

If it's closed, I guess we're climbing up to the ski lifts and coming down the front side of GMR.

If there is a fire up there even reasonably close by I am not going. No need to go and do a ton of climbing in horrible air.

I am thinking that even if they are open its not the best idea to be riding in the area if not for anything but out lungs. If it is miraculously out today i would consider riding but if not I think i will stick to the beach area where the air will be much better.

Yesterday afternoon, south of Rose Hills looked good. As soon as I got near Rose Hills, the entire SGV was covered in smoke. You can't really tell how F'd the air is till you look from the outside. I'd stay away from Bonelli.
