    Kinda Wierd Huh?

Too much eMpTyBeeR for most of us. We have a "family" here. You know... kinda like Charles Manson had a family.

Welcome aboard Newbie1! Fortunately for me I'm not Dino, but I'll answer your question anyway.

Turnbull Canyon is located in the city of Whittier just off the 605 and Beverly Blvd. Take the 605, exit Beverly heading east. Go about 3.5-4 miles and it's just passed where all the houses abruptly end. Park in front of the houses (so you reduce the risk of your car getting broken into) then pedal up about an eighth of a mile to the trailhead on your left.

Didn't your mother warn you that there are Dirtbags lurking about on the internets ;)

    http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/groups/scv-dirtbags.html

We've got some good relatively non-death-march type MTB riding available up here.

Let us know when you'd like to come up.

Welcome! (Is your last name Kenobi by any chance?...)

If you have not already checked it out, go check out davemw's trailhead map thread -- http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trailhead/19876-southern-california-trailhead-map.html.

Click on the imbedded map, then drill in on our area. Check out Chesebro, Las Virgenes Canyon and Ahmanson Ranch (Victory trailhead would be good for a beginner). All local to you (on the west side of the SF valley).

    Good luck!

    Don't over estimate me!

I'm pretty slow even on my best day and I wouldn't have asked you if I wasn't sincere. We've all been there at one time or another (some more than others #-o). I didn't earn the title of world's slowest mountain biker easily. I have 20/34 gearing on both of my bikes and anyone that knows me will tell you that I'm not afraid to use it

Seriously, we've got some of the more gentle fire road climbs here that you'll find anywhere and it just gets better when you're ready for more. And the good news is that at just about any point, if you feel like you can't go on, you just turn around and head back down(hill) to the car.

So, don't be shy. Come on up and enjoy the ride :welcome:

Hey Frank. Yes, Ahmanson Ranch is good -- lots of fire roads, some good fire road climbing, and even some relatively nice ST occasionally.

Take Victory across Valley Circle and head up the hill all the way to the top. At the end is a parking lot at the Victory Trailhead. Pay a buck (get envelopes at the front) and park in there. Loads of trails right from the start.

From there you can ride down to Las Virgenes at the bottom of the canyon to the west. Las Virgenes links up with Chesebro. Man, you can just ride for days and days back in there.

Stick to the upper regions of Ahmanson near the Victory Trailhead for the time being, until you get some stamina built up. I rode up through there on Sunday morning, and it is just beautiful back in there right now.

Well, I'll try my hardest not to say it, but no guarantees ;)

I'm off work for the time being, so I can (and do) ride just about anytime.

Thursday is fine. Lets go as early as possible to try to avoid the incoming storm system. Let me know what time you can get to Castaic. I'll PM directions.

    First post thanks

A friend turned me on to this site when I explained I was looking to build a bike for my son. First time on I went to the marketplace and found someone GIVING away a crankset I needed for the build. WOW I wish I would have learned of this site earlier. Maybe I can return the favor one day and help out another member.
