I think you are unlikely to prevent the project but I do like the idea (courtesy of orangesicle) of allowing a parallel singletrack or allowing trail building/ obstacles down there. I think the whoop-de-doos are on gas company land too and they have allowed that to stand. I see no reason why certain areas couldn't be used in such. That might be the smartest thing to ask for right now....

I am not supporting what is happening but I do support private land ownership. I am surprised that the gas company let people on their land at all...they don't in other areas. Look at what has happened now, the people that have used the land believe that they have a say in what goes on in the canyon. This is not a public lands...it is to bad that the city has not stepped in to purchase the canyon, letting the gas company keep a easement.

I didn't know it was private land. I always assumed it was county land that was being used by The Gas Co. :?:

*Edit* Checked MTBR and the ride's scheduled for Saturday at 9AM. NOTE - to anybody who hasn't ridden Sullivan Canyon, this may be one of the last times you'll be able to ride one of the gems in the LA area. You can even bring a 'big' bike if you want to hit some the drops.

I am 2 miles south of the SM's and the air looking north is pretty mucky, but the Ocean Breeze is starting to blow.

It will be. If you can't have fun without going mach 5 around blind turns it might not be fun for people. There will be a lot of hikers too.

Not saying that sure I like to carry speed, but if this is really last weekend for the next what 5 years I would think it could have record number of users.

I had always assumed as well that the land was owned by the LAWP like much of the surrounding areas. If these repairs are going to happen, hopefully the trail won't be affected too much. I say we use the opportunity to scout out some new trail lines :) when this is done.
