Who is towing the bob trailer to the top? I got a tiny portable propane hibachi/camping grill we can bring...

I've decided finally...going to try to head up friday night, up mt baldy rd to the village to camp out in my car. i'll have my ipad to watch the stage so if anyone finds me we can watch the race as they work through the course (the last 2 hours of the stage at least) Maybe I'll try to catch them as they come up and turn left at GRR, then try to ride up towarsd the finish myself. I've got assloads of camping gear, I'll see if I can cram something in my mini along with a cooler to setup a mini camp until they pass at GRR. I think DavidB is going to be meeting me at some point on Saturday, but he probably won't make up his mind until the race is over.

We have a good size group heading up Saturday.

Meeting 8:30am at Arco Gas Station (NE corner of Foothill & Claremont Blvd.), rolling 9:00am. Climbing Baldy Rd to Glendora Ridge Road to Cow Canyon Saddle. Here we will wait for race to come by. Once racers go by we will ride back down GRR to Baldy and climb up to the finish line to wait for race finish. Bring your easy gears!

All are welcome, the more the merrier. PM me or post here if you have any questions.

Jeff, that sounds like fun (my original plan) but I am going to try and park up there friday night (with my bike, I think). I want to make sure I secure a spot at the final climb. I will look for you. If parking doesnt work out I will ride with you guys. Any idea how long it takes to ride from Cow Saddle to the top of the lifts? I road that area saturday and from the village to Icehouse and it was about 25 mins at the most.

I'll have a camera bag and a grey road bike, thinking of wearing a Path mtb jersey so I'm easy to spot. Definitely going to try to get up the hill early. Never ridden up there and don't want to get halfway up to a shitty spot and that's all I can muster.

I'll be watching it from the comfort of my chair on the DVR at 11 o'clock at night after a gruelling 8 to 10 hours of work. Have fun out there guys and be safe.

I have a time chart that says at the soonest / fastest they will be up to the first KOM at 12:30pm and to the top of Baldy the soonest 3:00 pm I dont remeber the other location times. It is funny becase it has three average times for the pros / peleton pace: 22, 24 and 26mph, are you kidding me? I would only average 14mph!

    Here it is http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/docroot/media/2011/11-AToC-Stage-7-Log.pdf?0

I may ride up with my son and his HS riding buddies. I'm not sure how much of the climb they will be able to do.
The plan is to go up to the KOM spot, or maybe even past the Village.
Do you guys think that parking at the bottom of GMR would be a problem? I was thinking of an early start 7:30 or so.
I guess another option would be to park at Glendora HS.

Claremont to Baldy finish - ugh

Made the ride up to the top from Claremont start line, watched the 1st loop by at KOM then slogged up with the crowd to the finish. I've riden the Sierras "Death Ride" 125 miler, Ride Around the Bear, and several other centuries. The steepnes of Mt. Baldy Rd. is the most brutal. Compact front crank and all, still had moments of 4 ~ 6 mph. At one point just past the 1K to go Kenda banner (red kite) a young lady slowly passed me... she was walking. So another awesome stage in the books for TOC, and I'm sure this Mt. Baldy stage is here to stay. Horner lookes much stronger than Levi, he deserves the win. Here's a few photos.

My girlfriend asked if I met any young hot blonds on the ride. I said "just one, wearing all black tights and a polka dot skirt as my KOM reward..." She said "sure you did"...

    Big effort!

Nice KOM prize - looks like she's married.

Pretty sure that woman's back in the foreground is Dot Wong; SoCal Cross promoter.

    Today's Highlights:
    • Best use of champagne ever by Team Garmin Cervelo on the podium for winning the Team GC. The podium girls never knew what hit them!
    • Saw Bob Roll strolling by. He's a lot taller and lankier than he looks on TV.
    • Saw Cole Maness taking photos. If you have seen any of the Rapha Tour of California mini-movies... he's the bald guy with the big mustache.
    • Biggest highlight was Chris Horner winning. He's a really nice guy. My wife and I both used to ride with him some back in the 90's and it was cool that during his post race interview, he even mentioned getting his start in this area and talked about one of our local rides (The 'Simi Ride').

And he's a lucky guy! She was friendly and a real sport, posing for photos with various riders. She was camped out next to the Bobke Gorillas, it was photo op heaven. Of course, all good clean fun!
