Nothing around here.....seeing as it rained up to a few hours ago.....wait a day or 2 before heading out onto the trails.

If you absolutely, positively have to get out on your bike......Maple Springs is about the only legal trail that will be ridable right now.....but even that, will only get you a few miles up before you get stopped by the snow.

Rain sucks.....but we are all dealing with it as well.

Trails in the National Forest are not closed after a rain and many are very rideable even during the rain. Try Monroe Truck Trail near Glendora in will be mud free from the bottom to the near the top, the very top is a fireroad and can get muddy up there.

I am so bored with Maple Springs and would and do climb The Motorway instead.

Trouble is, even if the County Parks were open you'd only end up carrying your mud-caked bike. At least thats true for Whiting and O'Neill. There's just too much clay in the soil.

The STT will be rideable but slippery if the sun comes out and stays out. It can be gooey for the first couple miles, but holds rain better after the flag. The Luge is fine to ride when wet, but will be greasy for awhile.

+1 on going up the Motorway.. much of it's rideable, but a lot's a HAB which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Plus, it might be unpleasant due to the elevation.

There's a trail in Irvine that loops around the top of Turtle Rock that dries out real quick. It has some fun sections, along with short paved connectors, stairs, etc. Worth checking out.

even if some trails are open after rains, you got to use your judgment, and not ride some as the damage that can be done to the trails

Agree......just because you can......doesn't mean you should.

The best advice is to drive out to a trail that has a lot of DG or ride the road. If you want a fun little loop that is mtn like, you can ride up/over Newport Coast, take a right at the bottom (onto Bonita Canyon), then a right onto Shady Canyon (2nd light), then turn right onto the sidewalk/trail when you see it veer towards the hills. This will take you through the Shady Canyon private community on a nice bike path. Just be careful, I hear it's used by many on the weekends (walker, joggers, dog-walkers, etc). It's not long, but has nice views a few little climbs, no cars (just walker/joggers who can be worse sometimes), and would make a fun little out/back. If you really want to do some climbing, go up Newport Coast, take a right onto Ridge Park, then a right onto Vista Ridge, left onto Newport Coast, right onto Pelican Hill, left onto Newport Coast, right onto Vista Ridge, left onto Vista Ridge, rinse and repeat if necessary *while this is on road, all left turns are protected by a signal or stop sign* :)

The veracity of some people online is not reliable. Check out the thread proraptor posted.

Seriously! Best advice yet. It sucks having to wait, Believe me most people here are in the same boat. but damaging the trail makes its crappy for alot longer!

Doubt you will get any where close to it with the snow up there.

+1 on the MTT in Glendora it will be wet at the bottom but the trail holds up well in the rain, and the ride to the fire road is about 7 miles up and you turn right around and come back the same way so you will get a 14 mile ride in.

Trabuco Creek Road and the parts of Holy Jim Trail below snow level will be fine. Just watch out for the crazies on TCR!

I'm surprised...this is a thread about what trails to ride in/right after it rains and nobody has mentioned San Juan yet. When I lived in OC, that was pretty much the only game in town for me when it rained..The only other open/rideable stuff in the rain was mainly boring fireroad (ack...barf...).

    So yeah, SAN JUAN!!!! :bang:

Otherwise, I believe that the weather is generally too good to justify the building of that. ;)
