So you've probably read about this "fat-bike" phenomenon various places on the interwebs, right? Honestly, having had one for a while now I think there is a good deal of hype involved with them and I'm not about to ditch my "normal" mt bikes, but there are places where they definitely come in handy. Anza-Borrego Desert is one of those places. Last weekend I did a nice loop out in the Borrego Badlands and checked out a few different areas that I ordinarily don't care to ride with my skinny-tired bike. In this case the hype was deserved as I had an absolute blast floating through the deep sand.

Here are a few pics, there are more on my blog (and more details) if you're interested: http://knowth.wordpress.com/2013/12/09/finding-peace-in-the-malpais/

    Beautiful day out there!

thanks, it's a Panasonic DMC-LX5 and it works well for what I use it for. Seems like the picture snapping hobby goes hand in hand with the biking hobby

    Inspiring photos!

Nice job on the blog. 45 miles of desert riding and photo taking in 6 hours? Dern, that's a good pace.

Doughboy, very inspiring and wonderful pics. Have done a good bit of exploring out there in 4WD vehicle, but the couple times I tried on a mountainbike it wasn't much fun. Fat tire may be in the future. BTW, before they closed it to motor vehicles did Turkey Track up to Anza. Always thought that would be a killer downhill on a (fat) bike.

Wow nice shots the colors really pop! That fat bike looks right at home in the wild. It looks like a scene from Mad max. Thanks for the RR!

Thanks for the ride RR Doughboy. I always enjoy them. They're very inspiring. When the weather turns bad here in Temecula, I sometimes head out to the desert. I'd love to try a fat bike out there in the washes.
