Woke up, the sky was clear, looked like it would be a great day for a ride. Drove to Maple Springs, some less than considerate people who were filming something took all the parking spaces near the trailhead, so I parked a 1/4 mile down the road. As I was getting my stuff out -- all the guys began to show up: Bret, Rob, Dell, and of course, JamR.

We didn't waste anytime, we got our gear on and started riding around 9. We kept up a nice, easy pace all the way to the top, with Adam and Dell leading the way -- and me and Rob not too far behind. There were some pretty brutal uphills towards the peak of the trail, but we all managed fine. Then the fun part came, rocky, loose, and steep single track all the way down.

All in all -- gorgeous day, beautiful trail, good company, and a nice workout. Looking forward to next week.

Yep it was another great ride! I really enjoy that ride even though there is so much climbing, the Motorway makes all that work worth it. It was a bit easier for me this week as I knew what to expect and I actually cleaned all of the climbs on Main Divide. Good company with Alan, Adam and nice meeting you Dell. This week the views up at the top to Lake Elsinore were pretty clear although it was freezing up there during the rest break. Good times

I ended up stopping and turning around probably about a mile or just over a mile before hitting the Main Divide. I had a serious case of the "ass factor", my shorts had ZERO in the way of padding and it was taking its toll. Not only that but not having ridden in a couple weeks didn't help matters. It was such an awesome ride once you hit the dirt. The scenery was so much different than what I'm used to. It felt like we were riding in a forest, a forest with tall trees and steep cliff sides.

The weather was a bit chilly up there as the wind blew. My fingers were almost numb as I bombed all the way back down to my truck.

Im bummed I didnt get to ride the singletrack, but there was just no way I could continue. I tried walking for a bit, and also standing while pedaling in a higher gear, but it was only a temporary relief from the "ass factor".

Next weekend should be a different story for me. (i hope).

Put on some skinny tires Bret, and lube up your ass  You have to try out the Motorway before it closes!

Definitely a good one today! The more I ride that loop the more I enjoy it. Even those last few climbs add to the experience--maybe not fun, exactly, but they make the Motorway that much sweeter!

A good ride is only enhanced by a good group, and we had one today. Was glad to meet both Rob and Bret, and good riding with Alan and Adam again. Much better circumstances this time, eh?

Lookin' forward to the next one, guys!

Indeed, I'll have to throw on my Kenda Klaw's and slap on some Chamois Butter and complete this ride!!!

It was cool meeting you too Dell and Adam. Hopefully you guys didn't wait/worry about me too much, lol. I had Alan in my sites for just about the entire climb before I called it quits and turned around.
