It's happened three times in the past to Reed and will probably happen again ... it's just that when you get to be seventy something, you're suppose to be relaxing on a couch somewhere with a beer ... not leading a group of mountain bikers on a new loop.

Many of you know Reed Price. He's THE guy at San Clemente Single Tracks... been there forever and knows most of the trail nooks and crannies. Reed fell in a loose corner today and dislocated his right shoulder (third time that I know of!). It was just loose dirt and front tire washouted at slow speed. Several of us tried to get it back into place on the trail at Reed's direction... but no such luck. Not wanting to hold up the other 11 riders, Bob took him to the hospital and the doctors got it back in place. (ouch!)

He's resting now at home now with his sling on. Reed wants to thank everyone for their help and concern yesterday. He actually apologized for messing up the ride. Roger told him we care more for him than any silly ride. Anyway, he said he'll see us soon. (A very good reason to ride as partners in the open spaces)

Healing vibs from the Tribe ... and be careful out there!

    God's love to all....

Healing vibes to Reed. Way to step up and take care of him.

I know the pain of repeated shoulder dislocations. Unfortunately, it only gets worse. I had surgery on one shoulder to end the problem and I am glad I did.

Sending out healing vibes to Reed.

And hmmm, there goes the doctor's studies that the older you get, the less likely you are to re-dislocate your shoulder. I guess they didn't include the STR peeps when they conducted their study... :?::lol:

When I called Reed yesterday afternoon to check on him he was on pain meds and feeling fine. You know he's a very tough old dude. He told me he was embarrassed and sorry for "ruining" our ride. But I emphatically told him he was being ridiculous and he didn't ruin anyone's ride (except maybe his own) and there was absolutely no reason to be embarrassed. I told him just heal up fast so we can ride again!

Sorry I missed the ride. Reed is real trooper. john told me about it yesterday and I passed it on the the other's at Ned's. He'll be back before you know it. It was good to see you guys out there, even if it was just to see you all ride off.

When Reed went over, I thought of grasshopper Gene's recent fall... sorta of a slow motion kabam!

BTW: anybody die on Ned's ride, Gene?

Actually, Justin I agree with you....

But in this case, we are one out of three. The ER docs said that if you know how to do the re-set motion, you have an excellent chance of resetting it IF you do it within the first few minutes. The muscles don't have a chance to tighten up. Once they tighten up, they usually have to put the person to sleep to relax the muscles and pop it back in. Reed knows the excercise well by now and asked for help in re-setting the shoulder. It actually went back in the first time we tried, but popped right back out. We hadn't quite gotten it in all the way. After that it was a lost cause. But totaly agree, you should leave this to someone trained in this motion and not a bunch of hot sweaty mountain bikers.... although it's really cool when it pops back in....

Everyone survived. I guess he had 9 riders and 1 runner(Calvin). Ned said Calvin started about 30 min before and was done long before those guys were.

Reed is "THE MAN" at SCST'S there is no doubt about that. Any time I've met him on the trails he has never had anything but encouraging words.

Reed, I hope heal up quickly and I'll see you on the trail real soon.

Reed and I were back out on the trails this morning (Tuesday). How's that for a speedy recovery?

We did 12.5 miles on the same trails but this time in reverse. We didn't do the whole loop but threw in some of the Forster Ranch ridge trails.

I'd like to be as tough as Reed when I grow up ;)
