After separating my shoulder 2 months ago (i've still been able to ride on it the whole time), today I broke a bone in my hand. I was riding an unspecified trail with friends, caught a big vertical branch with my pinkie finger, and apparently snapped a bone in my right hand. This one I wont be able to ride on. I'll find out how long it will take to heal, once I see an othopedist to get a cast put on. I'll be counting the days until i can ride again, and try to live vicariously through the Ride Reports of others. So please, make 'em good!
I hope the first portion of the ride was fun- I'm guessing it was in Laguna, probably a classic trail... Hang in there.
We were doing shuttle runs, yes, in Laguna. Fortunately, we had two good runs down a classic trail before I injured myself on a different one.
I'm so sorry to hear about that, and I hope you can get back on soon... when you do, I would love to get in on a shuttle ride with you guys. I went to the art school in the canyon and love all those trails.
SUX!!!!!!!!!!!! being hurt.. At least with it being in the hand you can maintain your fitness on a trainer...
pinky?? no ride??? huh??? art - thought you were one of the str tough guys? just cut it off and get back on the rig. How many fingers you use to grab the brakes ripping down that unspecified trail? more than 1...answer is bigger rotors j/k healing vibes!!!
If it was only the pinkie, yea, i'd wrap it up with duct tape! Unfortunately, it's the hand bone before the pinkie. :-s Even trying to keep hold of the handgrip was a new experience in pain.
I feel ya Art... I was a swiming pool skateboarder for many years. I broke my left wrist 4 times and my right once. The little nevicular bone gets no blood supply and takes years to heal. Hand injuries are the friggin' worst because we take our hands for granted so much. A simple finger injury can be a megabummer. Treat it as a real serious injury because it is. Good luck.
Sorry to hear Art. Maybe this will slow you down a little as you were progressing way to fast and embarassing all of us. Have the doc set the cast to your handlebars/grips and you should be good to go.
if there is one thing i know, its that.......... well ya know... sucks about the injury, at least you can be shuttle biyatch now!
While i'm healing, i'll take-up a new hobby... something safe, like gardening. Attending weekend orchid shows wont leave time for shuttle driving!
Sorry to hear about your hand. That SUX! Eh, orchids don't do well this time of year. May I suggest a quilt show or two? :bang:
Bummer.... As you know, grasshopper... it's not a matter of if... only when. You now have much time to contemplate the error of your ways ... use it wisely... go snowboarding. Heal fast bro!
