Rode Stairstep, Lynx, Cholla, and Rock-It this morning. All are in great condition. The little rain yesterday morning just firmed everything up. Get out there and enjoy.

So are they going to be mowing all of Mathis as well? I don't see how they can get an F250 up Mathis without completely re-grading (ruining) all of Mathis.

If they only build the bottom "connection" road to Mathis, the justification for closing and grading would be pointless if they don't regrade ALL of Mathis.

Maybe someone with info can chime in.

The answer to your question is YES they are planning on regrading Mathis... they'll have to in order to get emergency vehicles like fire engines and paramedics up to the top of the ridge. This was originally a fire road and due to the washing out of the bottom connector with the main canyon had reverted back to a more primative road/single/double track. If we ever have a fire in the canyon or on the ridge we will need that connector open to the top. At least we have Car Wreck open for downhill thrills.

Don't quite understand the need for so many fire roads...
They are the most unsustainable feature in the park(s).
Take a look at El Moro to see just how so ;)
Don't we have helicopters for fire fighting where there are no roads???

We saw a rider coming out of the barricades at the bottom of Mathis yesterday.

I've noticed that the trail work has been moving slowly out on the new Mathis project. Have there been some unforeseen issues arise?

Also, I noticed that there is a bunch of heavy machinery up at TOW. Does anyone know what they are doing?

    Thanks for the info!!

Seems like just a little more grading and bottom of Mathis should be opened soon.

No info about the equipment at TOW on the OC website. http://www.ocparks.com/alisoandwoodcanyons/

Keep in mind that construction isn't scheduled to be complete till July 30. Here is what the alert states:

They were in the middle of grading the whole Upper Ridge when I was there Wednesday. I made the mistake of continuing on, after making sure it was ok w/ the guys working up there, and it was mud-central. Seemed to dry out pretty quickly tho, from what I heard after Hotchkiss rode it last night.
