Apex man and I did it last year and it's just good all around fun. Mind you he rode his Intense mtb for the event and it's a pretty simple yet interesting ride. I'll probably ride my road bike in it again....maybe we can get an STR group together this year??? I hear people saying they manage to do these events alone, so it might be fun to organize. Go to the link above for pre-registration prices.

George if you want to create a poll that would be cool.

I registered for the Acura Bike Tour a couple months ago, so I'm in!

I may ride a CX bike with road tires this year...hmm...does that make it a road bike?

Another good ride is the City of Angels Bike Tour. It takes you through some nice areas of LA. You have a choice of a beginner route ~33 miles or the faster paced 50 miler that takes you through the hills of Griffith Park. This is a rolling road block so you don't have to worry about stopping or traffic. Takes place in late April sometime.

Here's the site for last year's ride.

I'll join you guys if my knee is strong enough by then.

Cool... I'll do some investigating and try to get us organized closer to the event. A nice breakfast after is always appreciated. ;)

Went to the website and it looks like the Bike registration costs the same as the marathon? That's $100 smackers! Is that right? It would be a fun ride, thanks for mentioning it. Let me know if the cost is different and I will keep checking your post for updates.

Not sure where you got those fee amounts from but they are only $30 each if you don't register early enough. So $50-$60 to register for both the Acura LA Bike ride and the Volvo City of Angels ride.

You may have been looking on the wrong place. This is what I found here http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?RESET=0&CHECKSSO=1&EVENT_ID=1425339

    Acura L.A. Bike Tour
    $35 through 12/1/07
    $45 through 2/25/08

I'm not sure if you can sign up after that date.

    In addition to the thanks...

My bad, I was looking at the actual site for the marathon and the poor runners fees. Soooo sorry. Crazy that they pay $100 bucks to run and look like they are in such pain. Thanks for the correct info.

Are any of you going to do the Solvang Century or the Fallbrook Tour of the Oaks Century?

Did this the last two years. As long as you go with the right attitude, you'll be ok. There are SO many people riding (and ALOT who don't ride too often) that there is always back-ups, bottlenecks, and unplanned stops. Also, can be a little dangerous, unless you can seperate yourself from some of the clueless. Last year I was a little late and had just made it to the very first corner after the starting area when I saw the huge wave coming. I quickly turned around and rode in the front group for the whole ride! Finished like 93rd or something. Now that was a great Bike Tour experience! Probably would never happen like that again...so I'm gonna skip this year! The City of Angels ride is a better ride for me...other than the Nazi ride marshals. But where else can you do 45 miles, then give blood?

City of Angels sounds good also...however I can't give blood. (Hereditary blood issues) Although...since learning to mountainbike....I give blood on almost every ride so I hope that counts for something :p

I think you have to look at these rides a little less seriously. We do it for fun and to spin the legs...if you're up for a number or a challenge, then yeh...I wouldn't bother. Too many kooks.

I'll wait till the time gets closer, then I'll probably sign up if it doesn't conflict with my planned or training rides

Sounds like fun. Anyone from SD want to meet at my place and take the train up?
