Well, after seeing the pictures the other day, I made plans to head up to Joplin this morning.

What a beautiful morning to play in the woods!

And yes, I cheated! I drove my Escape up to Modjeska Peak, and then rode down Joplin from there.

    From Modjeska Peak.

Once up top I jumped on my Dawg, and headed on down Joplin.
The dirt was freak'n amazing!! It was just moist enough to freeze, and was crunching as I rode down to the trees.

    Here's what I found when I got there! #-o

    Front
    [IMG]

    Back side.

I got my tools out, and got started. It wasn't as bad as I had planned on it being. Lacey bought a new saw for me for Christmas, and it work like my very own little elf!

It was F.U.N. riding down with these in my pack!

My Pulaski kept smacking me in the back of the head, going down, and back up! #-o

Here's how things looked after the first couple of hours.

And after 4 hours, a lot more cutting, some chopping, and playing around building a log roller over the one that I could'nt move (more like resist), it was ready to ride!

    And my little log roller.

It took me three tries, then I made it. And no, I didn't go OTB like our SART ride!

    Here's the exit...

and how it looked in November, before the trees came down.

And thanks to my little girl.....

    No chainsaw was needed!

On the hike-a-bike back up I ran across Disco. He was on his way down to give me a hand, but had ridden up Harding. And I also ran into our own Portly Peddler at the top, and he was also on his way down to give me a hand!
I'd like to thank both of them, and let them know next time I'll start a little later.

Like I mentioned, it's open and ride-able now. Get your butts up there and enjoy that amazing dirt while it lasts!

It was a beautiful day in the woods for sure!

Thanks for taking care of that; looks like you did a great job.

Is it too late to put one of those saws on my Christmas list?

    Beautiful day

We took out that low one so it's a 6 foot ceiling now, and added to the tranny on the log drop. Last rain gave the trail a good packing, but it's still Joplin:lol:. Next time I'll check my PM's before riding up#-o.

    Good times and Happy Trails.

Thanks D. Nice job! I would have love to help but we had another project going on and we didn't get done til 1pm. Look's great though. Hopefully the motos will stay off.

That section was really the flowy section of Joplin and the exact area where you snapped this pic of me in Nov.

Yes he seriously does! To think a man would dedicate himself to trail maintenance after working a graveyard shift,...technically after Christmas and do this ought to make many of us feel ashamed.

Darin, today you were the Green Beret "society".

I saw Steve up at the top, and told him I saw you.

I'd left one low one because it looked like it was helping support the tree.

Which one did you guys cut?

It was cool running into you guys, and even cooler knowing you were coming to work!

    See you on the trails!

    Thanks!

Home Depot has those saws for under $20!:clap::clap:

    The Low one

Yeah that one was cracked pretty good, and tough to get by without a lot of English:?:. Made pretty short work of it with the Hatchet and Steve's folding saw. That upper one is a good foot or more around and actually may be anchoring the rest. Both of us are grateful to You for clearing out the heavy lifting:clap: really made the rest of the ride more enjoyable (except for the climbs8-[). Best part was ripping through the really loose rock section, we both went down in the same spot and our bikes landed on top of each other in the perfect spoon .

Skies could not have better favored everyone's trip on the Mountain, best of all was bumping into so many good friends both new and seasoned.

Very cool. I trust your judgement, and believe it'll all be good!:clap::clap:

I saw Steve this afternoon at The Path. He filled me in on the antics on the way down! Sounds like you two had a blast on the rocks!
He showed me his pinkie, and it looked a bit like a big blue sausage!

Like I said before, it was great knowing you guys rode all the way up Harding, and did your part on such a great trail!
If we get more rain, there may be a lot more to do up there.
I'm glad to know you guys are ready!

Ya , if it is anything like last year, there were more than 2 dozen trees down. Some big, some small but they covered the trail all the to Old Camp. The snow didn't make things an easier.
