    Hello from San Dimas,

I’m getting back to riding after 21 years or so off any kind of bike. I was in a bad roadie accident when I was 23, which took 144 stitches to put my face back together. They did a great job most people would never know it happened. It’s a mental thing that keeps me off I think since I road a bike since I was 5 or so up till that happened

Well back in 2001 before I met my wife I picked up a Kona Blast thinking I’d stay off streets. I took it around the block, hung it up in the garage and sold it in 2008 … I guess I wasn’t ready.

Tami now my wife we met in 2005 said, “You light up when taking about the way you used to ride” and should start again… I don’t understand why you sold your bike… We need bikes!

So here we are she got a Trek 7200 and can do easy trails (needs to take it easy on her back) and I picked a Rockhopper SL Comp 29er to start with, seemed like a good bang for the buck.

Since MTB was not my main sport, I’m not sure what I need before I hit the trails with STR. I have been reading up on it here and in magazines, but is there a check list of must haves before you start (Not upgrades) I don’t want to just start buying things, but I like to be prepared, and half the bike I don’t understand equipment wise.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to making new friends.

    welcom from Lakewood,

you need at the minimum, helmet, something for hydration. a pack or bottles. spare tube, patches, pump, tire levers,.

should get , tire levers, and a multi tool. Lights if you want to ride at night. would highly recomend gloves.

when riding with STR the most imprtant thins to have is the desired to have a good time while riding, the ability to send and recieve smack talk, and have fun.

There is a group ride Wed nite at Marshall Canyon or Bonelli depending on where everybody wants to ride, call Bumsteads in Ontario for info. 909-984-9067 ask for Lloyd.

As to what you need, helmet, shorts, gloves, glasses, shoes, flat tire replacement stuff (you know) pump, chain tool, camelbak or water bottle. You need to know how to change a tire, maybe fix a chain, the rest you can learn. Good for you for getting out there again. My wife kids, (7 & 5) and I ride in the IE and would like to come out that way soon to ride. Hit us up and will come out there and or you guys come out here. We will ride at what ever pace you want.

    Jim

Welcome to STR. If you ever get a chance, join the Fully Thursday night. It's a social ride and would be a good way to meet up with some members.

    Either is a grea....

    Hey hey! :welcome: from Ventura!

What was I saying....oh yeah, either of those helmets are a great choice. I have the Fox Flux but the only thing I would suggest with a helmet selection, if you're buying online, is to go somewhere and try it on first. Your noggin will thank ya!

Congrats on the bike and welcome back!
