Gina and I did 56.5 miles on Saturday. Having a slow year last year I figure it's time to aim for a 100 miler hopefully in late August. Nothing organized, just want Gina to rack up another 100 miler. So we our plan is to ramp up the mileage. We did a century 2 years ago with a 15.8 average. This 56 miler was at 15.4 average so hopefully we can pick up the pace a little by the time we do our Gina Century II (GC2). Along the way we picked up a few other riders. Ron and & Dixie on their tandem, and Mark and Gail who had planned to ride 3/4 of the day with us. Ron and Dixie had already finished their ride when we met them but rode with us for a short bit only to make an appearance in the video ha ha! Some people like to see themselves on video so that is why I make them. Of course I have this Breathless Agony jersey that I can not wear, 2XL is like 6 sixes too small for me so I have to beg Gina to wear it so that I can at least see it off the hanger. I think this is the 3rd time this poor little sucker has been on a bike ride, such a shame!
Alex is a regular out there. Usually does 80-100 every Saturday. Rick is a regular but has been off the bike for a while thanks to the evil C. :-( Ron and Dixie are regulars out there on their tandem. Ron just recently completed BA again. Gina and Gail having fun at the break. Rollin'! Rollin' rollin'! Well, I'll take another pic of my jersey before it goes back into the closet ha ha!
Nice ride. If you're already doing that far a century by August is a good goal. I've never ridden on it but have wanted to try the SART sometime since it looks like one of the few relatively flat places to get a ton of miles in without have to stop all the time for lights and not have to deal with traffic.
That is why we use it most the time. Since my wife started riding with me 95% of the time, I prefer to keep her from traffic. We used to ride from here (Upland to Fontana Lytle Creek area quite often but after a few riders got killed locally, I decided to keep her safe. The ride has it's pros and cons like any ride. Flat but no coasting. No stops but no rest, no hills but lots of wind. You can work hard and go fast or make it easy and go slow. It is what you make it! ;-)
Zactly! But we usually go late. I've been told if you go early there is less wind. We start about 10:30 so we get lots of wind and much of the cycling traffic is cleared out by then. I'd like to go early but fighting Gina to get out of bed is much harder than fighting the wind!
If you go around 10 you might get away with no head wind heading to the beach and a good tail wind leaving the beach. If you really want a good work out start from beach and hit 91 in the morning and head into the prevailing afternoon wind. I sure miss riding road bike in OC.
Pretty much what we do. We start at 10:30-11:00 from Anaheim. We head to Yorba, then back track to the coast. So that puts us into the headwinds near the coast at about 1 pm. Then we have a nice 12 mile return to Anaheim. But we just about always hit the wind. Looking at my Stava , we hit Huntington Beach at 3 pm, peak winds! Mile 35 was right around 3pm arriving at the coast.
