Anyone have a source for 4" rotors? Can you retrofit them to bb7's? All you 4-inchers out there: do you have 6 inch envy?
I've got a 140, but that's clearly larger than what you are looking for! What do you put 4" rotors on??
I could have sworn someone said he was running a 4" rotor in the rear on his ss, but it's probably a 140. Pretty small any way you look at it, but I'm curious as my bb7 160mm rear is pretty grabby, even on a 29" wheel, and I tend to grab a handful of brake when bouncing over rocky descents on a rigid bike.
140 is the smallest I have seen too. you might need to find a new caliper adapter to use that smaller rotor. I'm not sure if Avid makes a caliper adapter that flat.
I've got the 140 on the Dos. Juicy Ultimate's with a Hope 2 piece rotor (for the red 8-[). I prefer 160's, but the 140 is lighter. If the BB7 rotor works with the regular rotors, I'm sure you can get an Avid 140 for it and check it out. I know nothing about whether or not you'd need an adapter, I assume you would, but call any shop up. My recommended shop in signature
Are you using Avid levers? I have a theory that most BB7 issues come from other levers. -just my two cents, I am not a scientist, nor do I play one on TV. I run my levers so they don't lock up until about a 1/2" from the grip. Great modulation and not grabby.
yep - Avid Speed Dial levers. I just set them up after switching calipers & rotors from Hayes MX1's (the Avid levers really don't work too well with the MX1's, ok but not ideal), so I'm still fine tuning them. I'll get them set right after one more ride with some trailside stops, and actually I think I'll stick with the 160's - I didn't think about the heat issue. I'm picturing coming down Gibraltar or Little Pine with flaming 140's...
MX1's suck, the cheaper mx2's have been much better for me. Nothing but trouble with BB7's and every other disc Avid has foisted on the world. It sounds like you desire less braking so I would suggest Shimano for better "modulation". If you are interested in actually stopping get your self some Hayes strokers.
