Oh CRAP. Only 3 options I can think of here.

    1) Change it to a 34t chainring
    2) If you have a 68mm BB, move all the spacers to the drive side of the crank and use a pedal shim to kick the non drive pedal out a few MM to put your foot back where it should be (sounds bad but was done on my roadbike for hip displacement issues, works GREAT)
    3) go with a 2x crank. My 2x crankset SLX has a different chainline that is out a few MM more than the 3x cranksets.

Personally, I'd give option 2 a try as it's less invasive and you can run what you have already... Remember to reset the limit screws on the FD after moving it and to check the non-drive crank arm for clearance to the chainstay.

    Good luck man!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am using a 68mm bottom bracket, but don't have any spacers installed. The bottom bracket came with some and all see if I still have them. Curious about the Sam idea...I'll research that one a it more.

Is this the heckler listed in your profile? 68 mm external bb?

Depending on setup, a 68mm BB "should" have 1 spacer on non-drive and 2 on the drive side.

What 36t ring are you using? Does it have ramps/pins? It sort of looks like an SS/1x ring. If so, that may be the problem. If not, maybe adjust the low limit screw a bit more so it doesn't drop as far inwards.

it's weird that you are able to run that shimano external BB with no spacers then. I'm not sure how the heckler chainline is specifically supposed to be set up, but i would try running it with the three spacers in there as the instructions say, that would push your chainrings outward a little bit.

according the "net" (and we all know if its online, it MUST be right) the Heckler has had a 73mm BB since 2010? Anyway, If I remember correctly, your frame is a 2011/12? I sure do hope the spacers solve your chainline issue!

Quick question concerning the chain. I'm thinking of converting my 3x9 to 2x10. I'm planning on purchasing the the 10 speed rear drivetrain. My question is, will the 10 speed chain have any issues with a converted 2x crankset (from a 3x)?

    Thanks.

You're right. I remeasured and it is 73. I went over to the path and they hooked me up with a couple of spacers. (Thanks guys!)

You're welcome to it Kevin! I also have an extra brand new 38T ring if anyone needs it.

I'm looking to convert my 3x9 to 2x10 too. So there's no spacing issues with the xt crank with 36/24 ring gears?

I'd say it depends on your frame.

If it works 3x9 or 3x10, it will work 2x........ I've never seen it not "work" unless something was off, missing or misplaced during installation. My friend is running his 3x9 crankset on his 07 Spec StumpJumper with a bash guard and setup as 2x9, 24x34 with no issues what so ever. Dont see how a 36t would be an issue.
