    What is it?
You pick up the Trash, I provide the Cash...its that simple. Last year 2009 was a success, hopefully we can do even better this year...Let's use the rest of summer to do some trail cleaning!

    What's the catch?

Nothing, just decided to put my money where my mouth is, and have a little fun.

    Prizes:

1st Place $50, 2nd Place $25, 3rd Place $10 gift certificates to Amazon, iTunes or The Path will awarded the week after the contest ends. Theses prizes may be subject to increase depending on participation/special bonuses/additional sponsors etc... so check back! (Additional Sponsors Welcome)

Bonus Prize #1 : Most Unusual Item: Donated by SnowNow
Mountain bike tune up from : CyclePro Bicycle Service. 22706 Aspan, ste 502, lake forest Ca. 92630.
    949-597-1100.

    When:

Starts Last Saturday 7/17/10 ... so I can make my first entry
Ends Midnight Sunday 9/12/10 (Weekend after Labor Day)

    Rules:

    1) Find, Collect & Remove trash (one or more items) while riding and deposit in a proper receptacle.

    2) Make a Post in this thread with the following information:
    a) A Picture and/or Description of said trash. One or more items at a time are fine. A picture where you found it may score extra points. If you do NOT take a picture that is OK too, we will take your word for it, but pictures get extra points. Trails outside of SoCal area are welcome.
    b) The Date
    c) The Name of the Trail / Area
    d) Sample Perfect Post : Here

    3) You can post as many times you like during the contest, but only once per ride. Post all trash for that ride in a single post within 1 week of the ride.

    4)
I will determine the winners completely subjectively in terms of Quantity, Quality and whatever other subjective terms I deem relevant.

    5) I have a particular pet peeve regarding Mylar Balloons, GU/Cliff Bar Packages, Plastic etc or pretty much anything non-biodegradable or a dirt life of 10,000 years.

    6) I will publish the winners and distribute the prizes the week after the end of the contest via this thread and a PM to the winners.

    7) Participate at your own will and risk i.e. do not complain to me if you pick up something gross and gooey.

8 ) And yes you can Juke the system if you want, but I am a firm and proven believer in Karma is a B1tch!...oh and don’t make this too complicated.

I hope that the moderators will make this a sticky so it is easy to find, feel free to put in the proper forum

    1st Post

    Date: 07/17/10
Where : Various Trails at El Moro

This was collected on that hot day that was Saturday at my usually fairly clean El Moro. All that cardboard was in one place on Poles....and yes that was a well baked and gooey Sugar Daddy bar...I did say it could be a bit messy ;)

    IMG_0987.JPG

BTW I was collecting that bottle with this view in the background...

Great idea to motivate people to pick up trash. If I'm taking a break and see it I pick it up. I'm ashamed to say that while riding though. I hardly notice or don't bother to stop. I have realized that I see a lot of packets for energy replacements. SHAME on us. You would think that the people using them wouldn't drop them on the ground. Granted, some might have slipped out while riding, or running. WHEN I'm at HB dog beach, I make one pass just picking up trash while my dogs wait for me to throw the ball. I will make more of a concious effort.

Not much out here, the heat must have kept the casual slobs away. But the small things stand out when the area is clean!

Trash: A cloth strip - bush marker? Napkin. Bar wrapper. Ragged helmet strap

Parts: Bar end plug. Crank cap. Presta Nut.

Stopped at the rocky view to rest, looked down, and cigarette butts.

Just before this contest started I found some odd things but that will have to be another post.

One more image - Somebody had a bird for dinner?

So I was recently injured and will be off the bike up to 12 weeks. Can I still participate while hiking instead?

    Let's see:

We have toilet paper, platic bag, blue pastic bag, ziplock with toilet paper in it, tissue paper, paper towel, plastic lid, fruit by the foot paper and some other wrapper, empty ensure bottle, and a lizard. Well, maybe the lizard doesn't count?

That's Great, you don't need to post pics but posting pictures is pretty easy "Go Advanced" and then click the little paper clip icon and see if you can up load your pics. But don't worry just described what you collected and your in.

    Thanks!

Speaking of lame stuff to pick up... a few years back in Utah we were participating in a "Canyon Cleanup" in little cottonwood canyon and someone found a dead body is a sleeping bag. No joke.

In a dry stream bed filled with babyheads - a pedal adaptor. Likley spot to be knocked off but you'd expect someone to notice.

As the trail turns to dirt some color is noticeable.

And another cap! Is this a better brand?

Overall the place is clean if you don't count horses.
