Welcome to STR. Unless you live in West Hollywood stick with a 26'r ;)

actually i just made the switch to 29 for the first time a few weeks ago... its not all hype my friend... pure enjoyment .... i would demo a few 29ers that catch your eye so can get a feel for them. i can tell you this after switching from a 26 full suspension a few years ago, to a 26 hardtail this year, to a 29er hardtail now im extremely happy with the bikes perfromance on the trails thus far... as for me i ride a fuji tahoe pro and im in love with it.. Felt was my personal 2nd choice and its the same price point as the fuji... both equilly good componants and great frame designes. i also demoed a gt zaskar 29er and a specialized 29er both were good just not for me. hope that this could be helpfull... oh and of course if you can afford it gary fisher makes amazing fullsuspension 29ers.

I'm new to the forum, but not to the mtb scene. In the 90's, I rode a HT. I switched to a FS in early 2000. I just recently went to a rigid SS 29, and now I also have HT SS. The rigid is a 2008 GT Peace 9r and the HT is a 2008 Felt Nine Solo. I love riding both. I haven't taken out my FS out of the garage since I got the 29r's. I love them. I'll be racing the Felt at the 24 Hours of Moab in the SS Solo category.

I picked up both 29r's off CL here in SoCal for great prices. I love the 29's. SS just makes it more fun.;)

    Sorry for the derail

i have a gf rig 29er. i just dusted it off last night for the first time in a while. the ss part kicks my butt, but it's a fun ride--and it will make your normal trails seem like they're new. if i only had one bike, this wouldn't be it, but it's nice to have in the stable. the big wheels really smooth things out.

btw- gay jokes never get old...

I have both a 29" & 26" bikes. I tend to prefere the 29 for just about everything that I ride, and am ready to sell my 26" FS bike for a 29" version.

It seems that the 29" bike rolls the sandy and rocky terrain better than the 26. I'm also tall and ride an XL bike, so I feel a bit more stable on the 29" bike. It also looks a lot more proportionate.

I know this one guy who always seems to buy 29. He likes to do these 2700 mile MTB races in the Rockies, but when he's not doing that, he rides SoCal. Is that a recommendation :?:

I'm 6'-0" and find the geometry, tire grip, and stability of a 29er to be better for me. Fit is critical so I'd demo at least 2 or 3 of whatever you decide on just to make sure. Disclaimer: It's the operator that makes the difference and I still get passed regularly by guys on 26" wheels. Good luck!

Welcome to STR. Feel free to insinuate that people here are gay based on what bike they ride all day long ... just don't try to make a valid point or say someone is wrong because the thread will be locked or your post will be deleted.
