okay so im a wussy...im not strong enough to push a 26-36 low gear on my 29er and need a little bit more help. Im wondering if anyone makes a XX compatible 24t ring that's a direct bolt on. I would also consider a 22t too if it won't sacrifice shifting function. Any info would be appreciated!

Are you running a 36 tooth rear? If so it isn't that much harder than a 24X34. Just keep riding with the 26 and you'll get stronger!

the XX cranksets have a pretty uncommon (proprietary) BCD of 80/120mm. You need to find a chainring that fits the 80, and isn't too big of a jump from your big ring. If you have the 26/39 version, a 22t up front will probably be too big of a difference.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but-
The easiest way to get the gear ratio you are looking for is to change your setup from 2x10 to a 3x10.
This will give you a 22t crank sprocket with the option to pair it all the way to the 36t ring on the cassette.
After that, the only thing you can change is you. :p

looks like the new XO will have a 24-36 chainring combo with the same BCD.

another option from the new 2011 epic:
    Crankset: Custom SRAM Carbon S-2200, 10-speed XC double for 29er (38/24), PF-30, removable spider, S: 170mm, others: 175mm.

looks like there are enough mortal 29er riders out there that justified the lower granny gear :)

Where do you see a 36/24 X0 crankset? Sram site says 39/26 and 42/28.

Its custom stuff for Special Ed. SRAM is good at accomodating manufacturers needs.

I have a 40/28 XX crankset on my rig. I was lucky enough to have the big red SRAM rig at my disposal for a day and they just "happened" to have a run of sizes of their chainrings.

There will be options available- or so I have heard-, most likely after the new year but with a 26x36 gearing you should be able to crawl your way up some pretty steep stuff.
I love my 2x10 BTW, absolutely love it!

As do I. I run it on my Epic 29er and just put my Mojo in the shop to get the whole groupo.

    Can't wait to ride it.

So I am sitting here looking at my XX cranks and I dont think you can go smaller. The bolts are all the way up to the area where the teeth are.

just checked the spech site and the high end 2011 29ers are spec'd with custom XX 24t-38t double rings, and to mfoga's point, the inner BCD is now smaller. Enduro's are XO 24t-36t.

Does anyone have any leads/contacts so i can get my hands on one of the custom XX spiders with 24t-38t rings?

Check the BCD and the pics, they are just using triple cranksets. You can see the flat spot in the spider for a 3rd ring. And the Enduro has the x0 triple crankset with 2 rings and a bash guard.
