oh yea, i really enjoyed my last build... of course there are some parts you order and they aren't the right size? but hey... all in the fun... totally recommend everyone to build once atleast... if you can't do something, local bike shops are always there to the rescue... not to mention all the STR people!

on my last build... i used them and they were great! i am not an agressive rider, so i don't think i push my brakes hard... but for the places i go to, they are more then great... literally no maintenance... i read of all the leaking and bleeding you have to do with hydro... so i stayed away.

You tighten the levers tight but not so tight that they will not move with some force. I've been doing this since I raced BMX some 30 years ago and have yet had a lever loosen up. It's probably saved the levers and/or bars from bending or breaking quite a few times.

Make sure and get those grips locked on-- they need to stay in place even in the rain. And you'll want some plugs in the bar ends, too, so you don't take an accidental core sample.

I think the brake lever position in the second pic is better than the first. And then, I would move the shifter inward a little more [maybe 3/8" (+/-)] so it contacts your thumb more towards the end of your thumb, because it takes more effort/motion to get your thumb onto the lever when it's as shown in the pic.

Then, I would rotate the shifter up closer to the brake lever if possible, though I always leave a tiny space between the two. JMHO.

Good point Roger. I may have mis-interpreted AKAlan's post as leaving them loose enough to just push them into a new angle/location whenever one wants.

One other thing. Avid Speed Dial 7 brake levers have the lever quite a ways from the bar even for me with my XXL hands. You can turn the allen screw the red arrow is pointing at inwards and it will bring the lever in closer to the bar.

Edit: The levers actually look like they are Speed Dial Ti, not Speed Dial 7's. Not sure why this occurred to me in the middle of the night, but it did :~)

Wow - that's meticulous. As long as all that bling makes you want to ride, it's worth it.

It looks like a washer that fits into a slot on the crank arm. It might be there to maintain proper contact with the bearings from the looks of it. If you got this crank from your LBS, i'm sure they will hook you up ;)

NORTHSHORE Billet makes nice brake mounts that would add bling to that red end caps!!

okay, i will ask about it. i guess it can't be that much to just order. i am thinking my small parts bag just got lost? i don't have the pedal washers either. so weird...

oh yes, i already have red adapters on order... still not arrived yet.
