snow expected at 3500 tonight, so around the second yellow gate?, maybe two miles further? if they aren't plowing angeles crest and there is no vehicle traffic (work trucks) you think you can make 39 on skinny tires? just sayn dont wana be a downer.

Yup...using Mulholland and Santiago's series of weekday training clinics as training this year. Went up Maple from North Irvine to 4-corners...50+ miles round trip and 5500 ft of climbing....whoooo windy and cold up there last Sunday.

If I don't come near the podium after Fontana on Sunday, I'm going up Maple to the top again....suffering begets success.

Even better reason to push this back a week or two?

So what is the plan for, not this weekend but next, the 4rd? I have not ridden in two weeks and it will be 3 by the next time unless we have a clear week. This weekend I am snowboardng and hiking mt wilson. One way or another i will be doing a century either organized or with locals.

We have a big ride planned for the 3rd but if the snow level is to low we will have to cancel or postpone.

I was thinking of hitting the Santa Monicas for some climbing. Snow levels are all to low locally.

If the snow is too low, why dont we just plan on hitting up the santa clarita century, we can go rouge if it is a few of us. Then we can hit up the mt wilson trip later when the snow has melted. I imagine the Santa Monics mtns will be a mess after this storm with little rock slides and depris scattered everywhere, but it does sound fun since i wont be able to hit the Crusin the Conejo? Anyway I havent ridden much and I need to I just hate to drive far and would rather pedal. Lets keep the momentum going.

We only have 5 weeks before the ride (less one for recovery)!

Hiked to Mt Wilson yesterday. Snow at 5000ft the roads were clear at the top with about 6" new snow from the last storm. Although we are supposed to have sunny weather all week and be in the 80s by the weekend you think the 39 to the 2 will be clear?

I'll drive up on Thursday after work as far as I can to see what the conditions are and then post up what I find and weather the ride will go as planned or if we'will have to change it up some what.

Regardless of the conditions up top as I plan on only going to Islip saddle, I'm more interested in whether or not the road is still closed.

Crystal Lake's FB fanpage stated on Saturday
I assume the road is open at the least up to the Lake. No other info on the Caltrans site.
Photos from their page posted by a fan Saturday. Snow looks deep and cold

The roads are going to be very wet as the temps will be in the 70's for the last part of the week. Car traffic is a bigger concern to me.

Well, I was thinking we could see how far we could go. I think we could get to at least Islip Saddle which will still give us about 6500' of climbing for the day.

Well if we are starting at the mouth of Azusa Canyon and we dont make it up to do the loop we can always go to East Fork and down GMR for a loop and get about the same elevation with less milage? Maybe I am asking for too much.

So I can plan things for Saturday this is a go no matter what for this Sunday right? Where and when are we meeting again, I dont have the information can some one PM me?

Im in for this too! The GMR bail out is a good option if worse comes to worse.

I'll join in but I haven't exercised at all for three weeks so will be slow as hell

Mike can you shoot me directions to the park? 7 AM start means I gotta be on the road at 5:30 to go kick my own arse.
