    Fugly....

Not a fan of that downtube... last gen looked better. Are there any improvements to the Maestro system that warrants such a hideous looking (IMHO) frame?

I actually like it more than the last gen. It looks beefier to me, and I don't like the idea of a penetrated down tube, even though it must work because the Reigns are damn good bikes. I think Giant just made up my mind for me on what my next bike will be.:bang:

i LIKE the 2010 giant lineup.
the New Reign X looks good IMO, the New Faith is Pimp, and the new glory has an all new geometry to make it more slack and lower the BB and also lower the weight.
Giant is coming back with a bang for 2010

The frame looks like the female model syren from transition.....just sad.....

but the suspension on the syren is more like the diamondback knucklebox so at least thats good

Hmmm... Not a huge fan of the down tube, but then again I'm sure if I had it I would love it.

I really liked the older versions of the Reign X but by the time I will be replacing my current Reign this might just be my upgrade.

All the reasons for the new look are performance based, and if it's an improvement on the already stable and impressive Maestro Susp design, I'm all for it!

and since others are posting their 05's I'll post mine. haha :?:

I agree-- as an x-Trance pilot, the pierced downtube made it a pain in the **s to service the shock and added undue weight. Aesthetically, IMHO, this new design reminds me of a pregnant pelican. Functionally, I'm sure it rocks-- Giant's Maestro is a great suspension system. LOVED my Trance.

    Dude... that's just wrong. [-X

I think the new Reign X looks sweet! :bang: It looks really fast and light. Hydroformed tubes are awesome!

Seriously with the bustin of my balls about the fork? lol....I said it was being replaced. This bike started out as just a frame and slowly started getting parts swapped out. Believe me, i am aware of the travesty of the SunTour...lol. So far I have put about 1900 into this build and yes, the fork is the next piece.

and just so you can cringe even more.....aaaarrrggghhh!!!! A close up!!!!

cmon.....you know you want one too.....

If they ran a straighter down tube the bike would be lighter and have more rock clearance.
The shortest distance from point a to b is a straight line. The looks don't bother me so much its the unnecessary use of extra material that kind has me puzzled.

Well at least they go it sub 30 . Yeah XTR cranks and 3 rotor bolts per wheel might have helped. The frame must be a little light Because the seat post, seat and wheels are not light.

I can see a few problems with a straighter down tube:
*Same angle as the current downtube (yellow line): The bike's bottom bracket height would be 2".
*If the bottom tube was straight AND it met the bottom bracket at its current location (pink line), the shock mount would need to be higher
*If the shock was mounted higher, a mod would need to be made to the top tube (clearance)
*The shock reservoir would not clear the tube (if the mount remained at the same location (pink line)

    Pro's of new design
    -Cleaner than split design
    -Lighter than split design
    -Super low center of gravity
    -Low stand over
    -Increased shock clearance
-Pretty sure the new bottom tube is stronger

    Con's of the new design
    -Hit or miss looks
-I am NOT a fan of interrupted (i.e. non full-length) seat tubes
-Still not sure a tapered (1.5 to 1 1/8) head tube is necessary

While the looks aren't perfect, I am REALLY liking the new frame!

Dino, the reason they are doing the tapered headtube is for those who will be running bigger forks on it. me and a coworker talked directly to giant about this last yer when they werent sure wether to make a 1.5 version or not.
this way, you could run a tapered steerer talas, or similar fork, without having much extra weight, but imagine how much stiffer it will be.
These Reign X's take so much abuse it awesome, But now they will take more abuse and be stiffer.

The reason I am "not yet" sold on the tapered steer tubes is the fact MOST won't benefit from it! What happens when (Joe Schmoe... A guy who bought a 6" bike- when he should be on a 4" bike) decides he wants to swap forks? What happens when he decides to use the 1 1/8 fork that is sitting in his garage)? One more thing to think about!

With regard to stiffness: You have a point! The difference can be felt!
In my opinion: Switching from QR to 20mm provides more bang for the buck! The 10mm REAR will also improve handling!
    (I) am glad to see the tapered fork option.... Not sure the masses will notice the improvement.
