Probably not fatal if he could still pick up a phone (it's amazing how much trauma your face or "crumple zone" can absorb;)), head injuries are worse when the fallen cannot tell you their own name or make a coherent sentence. Next on my list is a Met Parachute.

That doesn't sound good. I won't suppose too much - but plenty of people have died after calling for help. A friend of mine's father crashed a few weeks ago and was able to call out for help a bit, He didn't make it.
    Let's hope for this kid.

I agree. People die after getting home safe too. A friend of one my coworkers recently died. He was involved in a road bike accident and died a few days later from internal injuries that he didn't know about.

He had gone to doctor for pain but failed to tell his doc that he was involved in a bike accident so the doc didn't do any ultrasounds or MRIs to check for internal injuries.

I took it that it wasnt serious. They treated the injuries on the ground and then used chopper to get him out of deep ravine. Who knows the title of makes it sound really bad but the article makes it sound like it was not to serious.:?:

Sounds like bell view trail or around the area. I took a spill there riding solo, hardly ever see anyone around that area. Hope he's alright.

Any phone thats recent 2006 or newer is legally required to have E911 location capability.

Now the locating the phone was supposed to be in place to locate the phone from 50-300m within 6 min of request to the carrier and was supposed to be in place in 2008 but the carriers now have until 2012 to get this in place. So it may or may not work depending on carrier, location etc...

Also this may or may not use GPS to assist in location.

I carry a gps but at the same time a ham radio wtih emergency capabilities. If I'm able to get to my radio it will broadcast an emergency beacon that will get picked up by a satallite and wont stop till it's turned off or the battery dies.

My radio also has gps on it as well and it can upload my position at a set interval to (if i remember correctly) a google map. A feature I just don't use right now as I'm usually with someone anyway.

I carry a lot of junk with me, for "just in case".

    Glad the guy/girl are ok...
