Its almost that time again Racers! The 12 Hour series final is right around the corner
( Nov 13th ). With the Coveted Champions jerseys up for grabs in many category's. This year's final is set to be a screamer.
Many new perks for the upcoming event. It looks like this Novembers event will be the biggest to date. We are expecting over 600 teams with over 4,000 folks in attendance. The Biking industry has really taken notice of our GRASSROOTS attendance. We are set to have the largest gathering of Cycling industry folks SoCal has seen in a long time. The great part is they are there to support you all with demo's and the latest biking bling. We will be sending out the list of all the new venders and manufacturers in about a week.
The November 14th course will be very similar to the November 2009 course. You can expect the Damn climb and the Marine Corp hill to be used once again, for the first time this year!!!!

I look forward to seeing you all in the dirt!

Will be signing up myself in a few days, need to wait for another pay check so that I have the cash for it. I remember when these races first started out. The biggest category had like 5 teams. It has grown so much! Can't wait for this one. I think I actually prefer the Dam climb over bridges. You don't have to concentrate as much.

i know this is one of the "bike for bender" rides, and there is supposed to be a special category dedicated to that--but i can't find it on the registration?

anybody going solo want to pit with me?

Hi Dirtvert, I think the registration for the Bike for Bender class is on-site only.

Hang tight for the Bike For Bender Cat. I am trying to make it work out on line. But I think we will have to wait till onsite! I will put it out in the next day or so!

The entry fee going to Bike for Bender is great. Lets throw in a lap count donation. Given the amount of beer that we'll be drinking (except for us solo riders that need to stay sober), I think we could get some $$ donated by the participants/spectators for every lap. Crap, we do it for kids jog-a-thons every year.

Think about this...$1 for every lap completed, would be over $1500 bucks if we just took the #'s from the June event and each lap only earned $1. I'm sure we can do better than that.

Looking forward to the event Jason! Currently on the fence about riding a two man team or solo. I have been racing on a two person team for the last two event (Fall '09 and Winter '10). I haven't done solo since the winter event in '09. There is something about the challenge of riding solo again that is intriguing. Two of my normal riding buddies are racing solo so it could be fun to have our own little competition - though I will likely loose because they consistently beat me on these big events.

If I do race solo my goal is at least 9 laps. I did 8 laps in '09. I did the math and given my normal lap times 10 will be very difficult for me.

Hey Brian I'm doing this one solo. Someone did ask me what my goal number of laps were. I told them 13, haha. Realistically I'm hoping to finish 10.

Ok ok I'll do it. Around lap 8 I am sure I will be cursing you both! :)

    10 Laps Sean! Do it!

I looked at my times for last years fall event when on a two person team and I am right around the 1 hour mark (58:28, 59:42, 1:01:42, 1:03:18, 1:07:54, 1:12:39). I remember really falling apart that last lap. My time were on average 5 minutes fast on the winter course, which I find much easier for me. You figure 12 hours is 720 minutes. If you can do 70 minute laps that leaves 20 minutes for breaks/mechanicals. That seems doable if a stead pace is followed and hydration/nutrition plan works.

Jason, Do you have an approximate distance for the laps yet? I really love to get into the 90 mile range as a test for my ability to complete a 100 mile mountain bike event next year and as training for a possible second attempt at the CA Triple Crown early next year (3 double road centuries).

Sorry Cattledog - the staging is at the pool area!
Maven - The lap distance is right around 10 miles. 1150 ft of elevation per lap.

Too much front brake? That's why I still have the V's on the GT (no..wait a minute, just picked up a 2011 Stumpy Epic Expert Carbon 29er...from the Path a week ago).

This'll be the last marathon for the 'ol silver tank...next year I can't blame the bike, only the engine....

Finaly retiring the GT? Sounds like you got yourself a nice new rig to replace it.

Wow I was going to say at least this time you will be going up so it should be safer.

I don't think I have every made it up that hill. I just it with as much speed as I can and coast to a stop. I the jump off quickly, grab the bike by the downtube near the BB and run it up the hill. A few quick steps and a CX style mount and I'm off. Luckily there is a descent right after the hill so you can recover there on the way into the finish. That is unless Jason has something sneaky up his sleeve. With the pit moving back over to the pool area he just might.

@hobie Nice job on signing up solo! It's going to be fun out there! I hope we get those little solo rider cards so us solo can cheer each other on. Jason?
