Gold nitrided titanium bolts are about $4 a piece, so it wouldn't be much more expensive than you've already figured.

So, if you add the fork.... you could have had it closer to 7k.... So I could easily see hitting 10k on a full bling build

Yeah but I dont know if they were saying 10k out the door or retail cost. Either way its close since some of those parts I did pricing may have been discounted.

I believe the engine alone in that car is worth more than the bike cost me. That Thunderbird is not street legal and it belongs to a friend of mine. That car will pull the front wheels off the ground.:bang:

It didn't cost me 10 grand and I only ride DH, so no need for ten bikes:beer:

What engine were you running in that thunder chicken? I know they had a 302 or that crazy hard to work on 3.8 turbo motor. I think it was a 3.8. Same one they used in the Taurus but RWD.

I got this for just under $8k bucks...and though it is highly debated, as of 2008 it is the fastest bone stock quad on the market. (For perspective, I'm 6'2" tall and weight approx 240 and with the KTM engine they package it with, it will EASILY bring up the wheels in 3rd gear without even breaking a sweat). I've had it to 69 mph on the dirt according to my gps and that's without even a single mod. Best part is, she gets my heart racing and all i have to do is hold on! :)

I understand that everyone has something they are into...but at the end of the day, is that bike really going to do that much more for you than something that "only" costs $5k bucks? I mean, I see people on mediocre bikes flying down rock-it all the time. Sure it could always be better, but there's a certain point where the cost/benefit ratio is thrown out of whack...and at that point, you are just trying to prove who's is the biggest (and i don't mean wallets).

    The Oskar Blues bike plan

Hmm... so lets do the math: my crappy daily rider SS cost me:

    $100 for the used frame.
    $200 for the carbon fork.
    $200 for the wheels
$100 in misc other stuff (even tho most were takeoffs form other bikes)

    I think I pay abut $4.50 for a can of Ten-Fidy.

So that means I only have to figure out a way to carry 1,133 cans...

Then there is also the factor of did the owner "build" it or did he buy the parts and pay a shop to assemble it....then you can count labor in the costs...
