    Shimano XT for sure. Always have had good luck with my Shimano Crankset, except my XTR 970 requires that pain in ass removal tool...

    Well 175mm cranks are great for climbing and on bikes with a high BB or for taller riders who need the leg travel for comfort reasons.

    165/170 are better IMO for freeriding or bikes with a low BB where you don't want to run the risk of bashing your cranks /pedals on rocks.

    # of teeth on your chainring all depends on your level of fitness and what kind of riding you plan to do.

    I am 6'1", ride a XL Heckler, and my fitness level on a scale of 1-10 is about a zero......


    what do you recommend?

    175's should be fine and the stock alignment of 22, 32,42 should get you by as well... I am 6'5 ride 175's on my XC and Am bikes feel kinda small compared to the 180's on my SS...

    If fitness is a challenge getting up hills you may want to try and gear the granny down to a 20T and/or ensure that your coget in the rear has a 34T compared to a 32
