I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now. Great forum for SoCal. Things seem much tighter here than on MTBR. I have spent quite a bit of time on MTBR over the past few years and post as mtnfiend (as in I fiend of the mountains). I live and work in Pasadena, and tend to ride mostly in the San Gabriel Mountains (Angeles National Forest). I typically ride a Yeti 575 with Pike and assorted parts, but also ride a fully rigid 2x1. I love to ride new trails and enjoy ass kicking, all day, adventures, that make you question your sanity. I love spending the entire day riding and not see anyone on the trail. I also tend to ride by myself but have recently tried branching out and riding with people. I am interested in checking out new trails such as the Tunnel Trail, any of the Palm Springs epics, any of the Nobel Canyon rides, Cannel Plunge, trails around Tahoe, and most of all Moab. My goal is to participate in an endurance race (12 hour type not 24 hour), super D, and/or the Counting Coup within the next 12 months. My other hobbies include hiking, backpacking, camping, snowboarding, mountaineering, and ceramics; though I haven't done much of the last two in years.
Welcome Welcome to STR. We need to plan a group ride up in that area. (that's not all SS ) Give a shout if you make it down to So OC. C
This Saturday Strawberry Loop is a SS ride, but anyone is welcome, especially if you bring a rope to tow my slow old ass up Josephine Fire Road. Strawberry Loop is one of the easier singletracts in the San Gabriels and a very good introduction to the area. I ride the San Gabriels a couple times a month. You are welcome to come anytime. Mt favorites are probily under a lot of snow right now. Mt. Waterman Baldy Notch Blue Ridge Mt Hilyer The trails on Mt. Wilson totaly rock...there are places like Winter Creek Trail and Mt. Zion that seem like you are in the middle of nowhere, then you crest a peak and see all of LA below...very trippy. A couple of pics from Mt. Lowe fire road.
Welcome to STR, MTBMaven!! We're doing the Palm Canyon / Art Smith trail ride on Sunday you're more than welcome to join us.
Thanks for the welcomes all. Dean, yes the Winter Creek area is awesome. I especially love it now that the gate is close preventing normal access. It was quite before, now it is ghostly. I need to get to Blue Ridge. That area seems really cool. I also want to ride Devils Punchbowl. I cannot ride on Sunday, especially an epic like that. We got the Strawberry Peak SS ride and a Persian holiday Sunday. My wife is from Iran and thier New Years was last Monday, it's tied to the first day of Spring. They have a holiday that is celebrated by spending the day outdoors 13 days after the new year. Sense that falls on Monday we are celebrating on Sunday.
