So riding my big red pig home from work yesterday, I got hit by a bee in my elbow pit, i took the stinger out and thought nothing of it, I have been stung way over 30 times before so this was no big deal, well right now my arm is swollen up like a rock in 4 inches in every direction from the envenomation site. This has to be the worst sting Ive had feels like severe arthritis down my whole arm (unfortunately I know what arthritis feels like at 23) I wonder if it was different species of bee or what not. Looked like a normal stinger and sac and only punctured 1mm or so. :?:
Anyways i took a claritin earlier and it still hurts like hell and im getting up in the morning to go to AZ, looks like im sleping in the car.
    ok my whinings over

I feel for ya.... I got attacked by Africanized bees a couple of weeks ago. I'm not allergic, but I did swell up a little. Worse was the itching for the subsequent ten days. I didn't sleep for several days from the pain and the itching.

I found that benadryl and alleve worked pretty well.

    Good luck and be well...

I saw your sting last night Ricky, that is why I asked if you were allergic. Something about the affected area looked wrong.

being stung myself, I just saw that there was a lot of puss that looked suspicious. maybe not allergic, but it looked infected and not just a bee sting. I was stung at the loop not to long ago on the bridge of my nose and it got red, but no puss like you had.????????

looked like a normal stinger and sac I pulled out, if not a little smaller then a normal one, wasps dont loose the whole stinger and all so it had to be a bee, unless it was the telson of a black tip scorpion I accedently ran over ?? lol
O well wait for it to go down, Ill forget about it hiking through Arizona tomorrow anyways

i usually get hit by wasps. it stings for a few and then it's gone but bee stings carry soooo much bacteria that it can swell, hurt and in my case itch for weeks. take an antihistamine and be mindful of infection. meanwhile, spread a bit o honey over some fresh fruit or squaw bread and enjoy the fruits of their labors!!

I think the severity of the sting is largely down to the contact site. Like the guy on STR who got stung behind the knee recently; a soft tissue area is likely to hurt more intensely and become more inflammed than at a place that has less tissue and nerve endings.

I would think that a sting on the inside of the elbow would qualify as such a place 8-[

Do you think you're developing a more severe reaction as you get stung more? We ride with someone who gets anaphylactic (sp?) shock so he's gotta carry at least two epi-pens AND Benadryl. We've had to get him off the trails pronto twice this year. With some of those reaction symptoms you should get them checked out. :-k

I have crazy reations to Bee Stings that is getting worse, I get a fever & huge amounts of swelling. Last year I got hit on the ankle & had a kankle in about 10 minutes, couldn't walk for 2 days. I got one in the ribs earlier this year and had swelling from my armpit to my waist very painful. Doctor just told me to carry benedyrl on the trail.
You can get treated for this by an accupunture, to reduce the reation in the future.

I recently got stung in the exact same spot - pit of the elbow - and, while not as bad as yours sounds, it was the worst sting I've ever had, too. A huge area around the sting was swollen and itchy for days.

Maybe it's just a sensitive spot - I'm sure it'll get better in a few days.

yeah im thinking that it may just be the area i have been hit in the had like 20 times, arms a few, and a couple times in my feet and never had it swell up this much, maybe the movement in the elbow pit aids in the venom's spreading , especially when you have to ride home

See a doctor if it's still swollen today.

My sister was bitten in her armpit by a spider and the area there swelled and was horrible for two months. There is something about being bitten/stung in your pits that's bad but I can't remember why. No, I'm not making that up!

    Hope it heals quickly.
