i did a search & didn't see this already posted. http://www.ocregister.com/news/rescue-222228-helicopter-hiker.html sounds like she was riding solo when she collapsed due to her medical condition. anyone know who she is? hopefully she was found quickly. healing vibes!
Hope she is OK. Thankfully someone was around to find her. During the week day, Whiting almost seems deserted.
Whiting definitely has it's on and off days for crowds. Did a quick loop yesterday around lunchtime - there lot of trail work happening on Borrego (had to wait for the chainsaw to finish) and I'm sure I crossed 10+ hikers and just as many bikers. I ride out there all the time and would hope someone would help me if needed. Glad to hear the passer-by helped her, hope she is doing better.
I was riding through the canyon at 1030, was passed by a fire truck and heard the heli above. I was hoping not to find a story like this when I got home Thoughts and prayers to her and her family.
My wife and I rode whiting at 10:30 today only saw one rider on the front half and a couple of riders on the backside. No sign on any of this. Hope she is alright.
I found this on another board : Today 11:21 AM -- Medical/Fire personal airlifted hiker this morning at the start of Mustard. They said she had abdominal pain. I hope all is well with her...
I absolutely LOVE all the "knowitalls" posting on the Register's site about this. I have a friend who got in a car accident and the paper mistakenly reported they were arrested for DUI. You would not believe the vitriol spewed by folks who knew nothing of the true facts....
God help us all if our name is printed in the media for any reason. In 60 seconds we'll have been judged, sentenced and publicly executed. I read some of those too and it's brutal. Pretty sad glimpse into the human mind of some.
Sometimes, I tell myself (self, I hope I don't see something on this trail that I'll have to testify in court on, or talk to the media about..)
When I drove by yesterday at about 9AM there were a fire engine, paramedics, and amulance at the entrance. While I was waiting for breakfast at Del Taco, the ambulance pulled out with the siren going. I said a silent prayer then and I hope she is doing OK. I never saw a helecopter and the stories aren't consistent. Was it a biker or a hiker?
"Id rather see "Helicopter picks up bicyclist" then "Coroner loads body into truck". Just my opinion. God bless." That comment pissed me off, reported it.
One of the most uninformed groups I have come across on the web is the folks who post comments on the OCReg site. I am alarmed by the polished ignorance shown on that website by those who comment. I realize this is not likely an accurate depiction of the OC populace. But it sure has an impact. I know there are other media websites with the similar amount of ignorant BS, it just surprises me how much more proficient they appear to be on the OCReg site is all.
Hope she's ok. Interesting to see the 'mule' ORV that the FD has. Glad that they have a vehicle such as that to reach remote areas.
