No, the feller who designed the Weyless bikes is a friend of mine. I was making reference that he and another buddy (Chris) started Niner. Completely irrelevant. :)

This was the kind of back story I was hoping to get about Sette, but from their email looks like they aren't even close to this kind of history in bike building....

    Cost vs.Value

I rarely look at bike by how much they cost….. I look at the value. Example before purchasing my new FS frame I looked at every 4” travel bike frame in the (29’er) market. It came down to the Ellsworth Evolve and the Homer Sultan. The Evolve was my first choice but was $400 more than the Sultan. Plain and simple it was not worth $400 more and picked up the Sultan.:bang:

Bottom line....time and time again..."You get what you pay for, period!" Decals, paint jobs, sexy doodads and bobbles (yep I said "doodads and bobbles"), won't get you up the hill and sure won't make the downhill feel like skiing powder. Demo before you buy. Everyone wants your greenbacks...so ride'em hard and put them back dirty - then buy the one that does what you want with little or no compromise and NO buyers remorse. Oh, and if the bike creeks or whines during your demo ride - move on to the next.

First, check out the company Kinesis. They make frames for just about anyone. If they dont, then giant does.

I never go by the name anymore. I've owned a Motobecane, KHS, and now a Marin. None of them would have ever adorned my friends garages. I never had a problem with any of them. Ever. I always buy for the best components. Frames are cheap enuf to replace if needed.
The sette is a Kinesis frame. I almost bought one. Check out rockers/frames for KHS, Motobecane, and Sette and you'll see the obvious likenesses.

If you can pre ride the sette, go for it. Its has good reviews. From what I've seen, if you're not hucking a bike it'll last forever.

Maintaining the pivots is the most important thing you can do. Clean it. Then clean it again.

I did a little research before posting on here. I read some reviews on their fully XC "Riddick" and it was favorable, but alot of the comments were "great frame for the money", so the state of mind is I got a good frame and got away with only dropping 100's. Rather then damn this bike is sick!!!!

The Sette was a Weber BBQ in its former life...

Look at the legacy of a company like Specialized or Trek or Fisher, etc. They put tons of money into R&D and have racing teams that also put tons of input into the bikes. That ain't cheap and they aren't doing it for sh!ts and giggles. You're paying for that. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Those companies stand behind their products and provide remarkable support as do the other manufacturers who provide the OEM parts.

Another thing is when you take that bike to a shop, it's going to get hated on. People are supposed to be nice and all, but if you pull up with a Gremlin at a Mercedes Benz shop what do you expect? Sounds silly, but it's true.

Its not silly, its a valid point, I don't even have to buy it to for it to be hated on, just asking about it seems to work :)

Here's how to solve the "hate":

    1) Buy the cheap frame, and with the extra dough, get it powder coated in a really cool color ($150 max).

    2) Then, find some obscure/wierd stickers or decals and put them on the downtube ($5).

    People will inevitably ask you:
"Dude, sick bike. Who build that?"

    or maybe
"Yo, Broseph, sick frame. Is that custom?"

You should then reply with something along the lines of:

"It's a prototype from Interbike, I can't really talk about it"

or perhaps something more cryptic like
"A revolution is coming. Everything will be made clear to you in time."

    Problem solved.

Yup. Or, get red colored contact lenses and wear sunglasses. When people ask "What type of bike is that?!?" just drop the shades, look them in the eyes and ride away. Instant legend.

Hey, I love that Reign! I was going to hook mine with the same colors before: 1) I saw that you'd already done it, 2) Found out it voided the giant warranty.
