Why is "Dirt Treaders" a banned word on here?

Sometimes these threads are very entertaining, kinda of like seeing a car wreck on the freeway. I believe people should express there options but draw the line when a post become personal attacks. You can say say what you need to say and get your point across without personally attacking someone. Being mature is knowing what fights are worth fighting, ask yourself are any of these issues brought up worth your time?

It's pretty clear you posted this just to stir up shit. Well, Fish On! Your bait did the trick.

I never figured you for an ingrate. Sleep well knowing that this community will think long and hard about helping out someone (supposedly) in need in the future.

We'll leave this thread open for a little while longer to allow others to comment as long as things stay civil, then it will be closed.

You know what they say about walking a mile in someone else's shoes... I've never criticized you as a mod because I've never been there. But your post above is cynical, inflamatory, and arrogant. Being a forum mod gives you the power to censor others comments, but in no way entitles you to speak on their behalf or as the single voice of the community.

Unless you have been through what Sladnas went through, you should be more cautious in drawing your conclusions.

RedHotSloth called George (the founder of STR) a chode on DT for taking issue with something RHS posted. George found out about it and everyone on DT enjoyed mocking George and STR for it. From there George decided to censor the word ************.com. It's kinda lame to kick sand in someone's eyes and then wonder why you can't play in his sandbox, but that's just my opinion.

Read all about it. (subsitute the *'s with dirt treaders as one word)

Why bring it up if you already know the answer Mark? That's busch league IMO.
Nail on the head for the most part. In addition to RHS, a bunch of other people people bad mouthed STR as a whole and myself a LOT. And then they actively tried to recruit people for their new site (and still do) on here which is when I asked them not to. That didn't work so I tried something new.

If you ask me I have no sympathy for people who enjoy a community, nit pick everything, get pissed, backstab the community, talk trash and yet still try to use or take advantage of that community.

I don't believe I was speaking on anyone's behalf but my own. Not as a moderator but as a longtime member of this community that thinks it's bullshit. Sometimes the facts are hard to accept. It was said earlier and I'll echo it. The whole thing is Busch League and I would have expected more from him. That said, he's entitled to his opinion as are you.

I am having a hard time understanding this?

It seems there are two distinctly different conversations going on here, one makes sense the other one is so far from sense i can't even believe it is going on by adults.
The first one:

a new site was started and joined by people that felt that STR was no longer for them. OK, things were said, feelings got hurt, difference of opinion. I have no problem with anyones point of view regarding this issue. In fact in relative terms it seems healthy, both sides are able to state and defend their feelings. In addition it is absolutely the right of the governing body of this site to decide what can be advertised here and what cannot, even if it is another forum (and truth be told I am a proud member of both, and MTBR for that matter), but i respect the rules at both and have no animosity towards anyone regarding those rules.

WHAT I HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM WITH:

I cannot believe that people here who banded together to help someone who's life was devistated in a fire now have the nerve to second guess that decison! Are you kidding me? Does it matter if he was finacially able or not? Did you ask for his credit report first? Or an income statement to base whether or not you were going to do it? Of course not, you did it out of the goodness of your heart...then. Now because he say's something you don't agree with your questioning whether or not he appreciated that gesture? First of all, if my girlfriend is upset and i buy her flowers it is to make her feel better, not because she cant afford to buy flowers herself. Whether or not he could afford to buy his own bike should have NOTHING to do with the gesture that was made. Do you all feel better now? Did questioniong his integrity somehow make you feel better? Does anyone not think that gesture was not appreciated? Honestly, regardless of some other site, calling people names, whatever, I am horrified to see that some would sink so low as to bring that up. Isn't ANYTHING sacred anymore? You did something good, should have left it at that. Or because you did something nice that he didn't ask for does he now owe you all his life or undying gratitude? Should he never be able to speak his mind because of the debt you all now have hanging over him? If i was Sladnas i would never forgive some of you.

Grow the **** up!

Isn't it time to close this thread now??????????:?: I believe the poor horse is dead (and then some). ;)

Whatever the moderators do someone will complain, they just start a new thread complaining about the censorship...this is a no win situation.

This is my last post.

I have been a member of STR for a couple years and I can honestly say this is the lowest point I have seen this site reach. To bring the gift we gave Mark into this post is irrelevant and disrespectful to all of us that chose to help a fellow mountain biker out.

I would like to think that I’m a friend of Mark’s and I also chipped in for his new bike. The bike that some of us chipped in for because of the fact that he lost his bike, his home, his car, his personal belongings, and EVERYTHING ELSE. I thought this was the coolest forum ever when “we” raised the money and gave him that bike and had the ride at Daley. It still is one of my fondest memories of mountain biking.

But to see people post about what he does with the gift we gave him makes me ill. The STR community did something great for another mountain biker because we “could.” I know Mark and he wouldn’t ask for anything from anyone. I don’t remember anyone being forced to donate or offers of doohickeys or anything else to contribute to the fund. I also don't remember anything about a contract with terms of use for the gift we gave him. But to see some people throw the bike in his face is sick. I would like to know who here has lost EVERYTHING and tried to start over? I don’t want to hear stories about how your stuff was stolen, or how you had to sell your bike for ramen noodles because the economy sucks. I mean you lost it ALL.

I know that with anything else the more people you add the more problems you create. I just thought that the MODs and George should have put a stop to this slander sooner. This is a reflection of the owner and the MODs that obviously haven’t made any effort to repudiate the statements others have made or to backup Mark. And I hope this does change the way STR offers help in the future. Because I think others would be far better off to have never had a kind helping hand from STR, then to have the same hand slap them in the face a year later.

I really hope that those of you that feel ill will towards Mark about the bike never know what its like to loose everything and need help or a friend because karma is real.

This is my last post.

Close and delete it.

I will say it again like did in the beginning.

We all ride there will always be rules we all have to deal with them.

If I cant type ******* then I cant Type ******* big deal.
Censorship sucks but its life.

I want to see a group hug !!!! Lets party !!!!

Like I keep saying its time for a STR gathering, Party BBQ or something.

The economy makes everyone crabby.

I got motha F'n laid off at random for no reason that I know of . How fair is that?

Times are hard I am tired of people being all angry.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

I backed Mark up.;)

Willie and I contributed;) To the bike fund. BTW I was unemployed at the time. :-k Just laid off before that happened last year. Yes I go out of my way to help and i get taken advantage of. Yes i am sick of it. My problem is I love bikes and helping people.
When everything you own gets burns and you have no home its nice to have a new bike to turn to and smile. I hope if something like that happened to Willie and I that someone would think to do the same for us.
When riding your bike is your only escape a bike fund can really help bring a smile to your face.:)

Blinging a bike out for some people is motivational. Some people will skip a meal to to save money to have better bike parts I am one of them. I am starving.

I'll respond as an STR member and not a moderator -

Perhaps on the surface it is that simple. The reality is the intent of Sladnas' original post. He knew the background of the situation but still chose to try and bait everyone (pretty successfully I'd say)

By my thinking, I would never pull that crap on a community of people that reached out to me during a tough time in my life. This has nothing to do with whether or not there was insurance coverage for my loss. No one asked those questions when they willingly gave.

Of course he can speak his mind. But with that comes the invitation for everyone else to agree, disagree or form opinions. People will do the same with my post and I'm ok with where I stand on the issue even if others think I'm wrong.

It works just fine for me.

I think STR needs to have a big BBQ or party and have everyone introduce themselves and wear the name badges. let people learn that though some people on here seem like mean arrogant characters. They are generally really nice and probably the first one to help you when you are in need.

Debate is never good online. You never hear both sides or thoughts as they where intended.
I'm no MOD although I do own a Vespa.

I do think that everyone needs to loosen up a little.

Play hacky sack hug a tree pet a kitten drink a beer chock a chicken GET SOME!
Whatever helps you relax.

You only live once and there is a lot of cool places to ride so stop stressing and go ride.
