I normally do both LB and Napa. This year, they are on the same day - so we'll hit the wine in Napa.
I'll do 80 miles, my longest yet.
My company (Bio-Rad) should have a big presence in LB. Some will do the century.

The Long Beach one? Do they close the roads from LB to San Pedro? If not that ride seems like a death wish.

Long Beach I believe is the original post question. The two big harbor bridges will be closed to traffic. It's actually pretty cool going over them. Also, a pretty big feat to get them closed for the event.
I'm sure a lot of the 10 and 20 mile riders really get challenged by the bridges as well.
The rest of the route will be open to traffic.
Abalone is quite a tough hill about 16 or so miles in.

Ok bridges are closed but do know if Ocean is closed between the bridges? If no I will have to see if they know, if that street is not closed no way you are getting me on a bike on that street, I don't even feel that safe in a car driving that part of ocean.

this will be my third year riding the Ship to Shore.

metric century is fine with me.

    it's a really fun ride.

sorry I don't know the names of the streets in LB, since I don't live in that area, but the road btwn the bridges is closed to traffic. Once you are over both bridges and get into San Pedro you are back on "open" streets. Your first rest point (if you care to stop) is Ports O' Call.

hope you decide to do it......great cause and always (at least two years worth) a good time.

if you are looking for a cool ride with rolling police closures try this one....... http://www.coafunride.com/

hope to see you out there,
    cheers,
    -tep

I'm thinking about it, but I have the same concerns as mfoga with car traffic in that area. It is also the day before the Rawanda 50mi ride which I am also considering. The coafunride looks like a good ride.

Ocean Blvd is open to traffic during the ride, but when you get to the 710 and it turns to freeway it's closed to autos. All the way until you get to Harbor Blvd in San Pedro. Including between the bridges. The year I did it, the bikes were restricted to one lane on the bridges. They put plywood over the expansion joints so bike tires wouldn't slip in between. I was on my MTB with 1.5" slicks, so I took my own lane.
Oh, and the steep hill I meant was Anchovy, not Abalone.

Its actually Ocean Blvd and another Street name after terminal island freeway , there is no freeway until just before Vincent Thomas.

But thanks for info saying that the roads are closed. That is big rig central and can be sketchy in car let alone on a bike.
