I would like to ride without a pack, and I'm looking for a storage solution for the second bottle.
At this point I identified 3 possible storage location:
    1. Jersey
    2. handle bar
    3. Seat post
    others?

My main concerns are loosing the bottle (and running out of water), and discomfort (bottle pulling on my jersey all day). Your thoughts?

Hey, I really like that idea! ever have a problem with the cork getting hammered out by the co2 and them ending up down in the frame?

I just may have to try something like that. I hate riding with a bag on my back too. would rather carry it on the bike.

I rode with a large bottle in my jersey on Sunday... It bugged me a the truck, but I never noticed it once I was on the trail. I may just do a third on the seat post to be extra safe. If I lose it I would still have 2 bottles.

I only have 1 bottle cage on my Rocky Mountain Element Tribal, so if I carry a 2nd bottle, I keep it in the middle pocket of my jersey. I've never had an issue of losing while riding or it being uncomfortable (I may have jinxed myself now).

I used to put a second cage on the bottom of the bottom tube, but the bottle gets grimy fast and I've dropped bottles off that cage before so I removed it.

The champagne cork is pretty snug. And with my seat tube diameter, thickness and the cartridges in a sunglass bag, it takes some negotiating to get them in. No movement. Just insert with the drawstrings facing out so when you remove the cork, you can tug them out.
I forget they're there. But quickly remember when I need them.

I had a problem loosing a bottle quite a few times as well but it was usually on short XC races when my cages had to hold a full bottle on downhills.

With the layout of CC/VQ this shouldn't be a problem as there are 1 hour climbs after the start and each aid station. Ill be drinking the bottle that falls out (since have gotten better cages) first as its a habit now.

As far as what i carry
    Saddle bag
    - Extra tube
    - 2 CO2's
    - A tire Lever
    - CO2 inflator / adapter

    Jersey Pocket
    - I put this into a hard small sun glass case (One that zips shut)
    - Multi tool with a chain breaker on it
    - 2 More CO2's
    - Sample sized bottle of chain lube
    - A dollar bill for a boot
    - Patch kit
    - Quick link

MnMDan yeah that would be great but make sure its a fast rolling one! I don't want those heavy DH tire you run! Also how much should I put in my pocket for when you try to charge me?

After reading about the ingredients, I'm not impressed. It's essentially a mass of simple sugar and otherwise the exact same ingredients that you'd find in endurolytes, salt-stick, or S-caps. So.... what's the advantage of doing this and having to measure out with your water and each new fill, versus just drinking your water and taking gel and electro-pills as needed?

Also, am I correct in recalling that in years past there were more aid stations? I seem to recall filling my 70oz camelback 3 times a few years ago and being grateful for each (I am a sweatmoster from another planet). Debating moving up to a 100oz...

The cool weather will (theoretically) reduce the amount of water needed to complete the course.
My current plan is to ride with 52 oz of water.

Nice mtnbikej...I like exact change...and nothing like smack-talk between members of the same team...kind of like talking to my wife through Facebook and Strava when we're sitting on the couch next to each other...btw...REVO closed a few years ago...time for an update.

Nothing like a day after thought.

One thing I do on event days is I use the Bag within the Bag trick. Main bag is all my stuff, inner bag has everything that I will "Carry On Me". I carefully set up that bag the night before. I know on race day morning that bag needs to be empty and everything on me.

Takes the morning brain out of the equation...

BTW My kit worked out GREAT!... I didn't use any tools :)
