I'm looking for recommendations on what brand of bodyboard to buy.

Is there a brand that is better than most? I can spend up to 250 bucks to get a good one that will hold up. My riding style is prone.

Can you recommend a good shop to get it from?

    What size should I get? I'm 6'0 200 lbs

I like bodyglove, I have no idea whats out there right now though. Morey is also a More popular brand. I would check out Sports Chalet and Sports Authority for them.

if you have to go the bodyboard route, some brands that are not just the typical drugstore boogie boards: mike stewart science, elemenohpee, custom x, no. 6, vs, empire... etc.

they can get pricey, good ones will run you couple hundred and then add in good fins and a leash, and if you want to get fancy, a board bag, blah blah blah...

but really, if you're not going to surf, grab a handplane and some fins and go for a bodysurf. my friend makes some awesome, beautiful handplanes and i can get you his contact info if you're interested.

oh btw, a great place to buy strictly bodyboard stuff from is alternative surf. there's one in seal beach, i think they might have other locations. 662bodyboardshop.com is also a good place, and aside from their internet site, they have locations in san clemente and dana point.

Although I surf more then body board, I bought a Custom-X years ago when they first started to sell non-custom boards. It is still in great shape and still floats my big butt 6'2"/275.

They have a few more designs these days to chose from so you should be able to get something you like.

Custom X. You will have to try out different sizes. Your riding style, the board style/cut all contribute to what size will suit you best. Height wise, 41" - 43" sound like the range you should looking at.

Don't get a cheap one, they turn into a banana boat after a few rides. Spend the $ on a good board, leash, and fins !

    Enjoy.

    1. If you purchase a board that suits YOUR NEEDS (i.e. conditions/features/length/riding style/weight), you can not go wrong with any of the higher-end boards (i.e. BZ/Custom X/Stewart etc.).

    2. My favorite board was custom-made by Toobs (in Morro Bay)...

    3. Ask the locals (i.e. shops) what boards they recommend for LOCAL conditions (different beaches.. different needs)

    Good luck!

I always liked the Mike Stewart Turbo model... I guess Turbo is now based in Australia but they have a distributor here in Dana Point.

Here is the newest version of the boards I used to ride....

The Morey Boogie Aussie 2. Epic shape and performance. Already comes with banana type rocker. No fins helps you pull sweet 360's.

+1 on the handplanes mtnkitty mentioned. I tried hers out last summer, and had a lot of fun with them. And the guy she's talking about does make gorgeous handcrafted ones.

Ditch the board, and rock some churchills or vipers and just go bodysurf. If you're riding prone anyway, who needs the board?

I already have 2 surfboards, I like to do both. :?:

Thanks, I'd be interested in the handplanes too.

I like to surf, bodyboard, bodysurf, snorkel, it's all fun to me. I want to do some freediving and spearfishing too this year. Why does everyone give bodyboarders a hard time? Reminds me of the SS elitists who frown on gears.

This is where I like to go most of the time.

I bought a Morey for like a 100 bucks a few years ago, but it's not stiff enough. I want to invest in something that will be good, stiff and last for at least 2 years.

Hey, it's nothing personal. SS'ers hate everyone...it's the whole criminal element thing.

Seriously though, nothing against you enjoying the ocean however you see fit. Sorry if it came off that way.
