He's heading there right now and a pretty impulsive guy to say the least (takes one to know one). He's looking to get back into the game after a few years out. Thoughts on build and price? Open to better options for him! He's about 6'1" 220

    It was a good bike...............in 1999.

That being said, they were prone to blowing out rear shocks and the frames were prone to cracking.

In addition, they use a non-standard rear hub.

$1000 seems awfully high for a bike DH bike that is going on 12 years old.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the feedback I'm going to link him up to this thread so he can see it isn't just me.

It's going to be pretty frustrating trying to "get back into the game" on a heavy dh sled.

    Pass.

    Horrible idea. Run away.

Who is the "he" you are referring to, and what is "he" really looking for? A full DH rig?

He wants a dh rig of course on a budget to start. I was hoping to get him into something a little bit more pedal able but another friend on a bike ill take what I can get. He had around $1k to start.

The only reason I'd buy that is to have something heavy to lock my other bikes to so they can't be stolen.

For $1000 you could find a much better, late model Kona Stinky.

There are tons of them out there.

Lol. He ended up with an 03 Marin. He's excited to ride so that's the main thing. Hopefully the bike will be nice enough to get him hooked like the rest of us

Hey 2003 wasn't a bad year for Marin. This badboy had 10.1" of travel and a rear thru axle.
