Yeah, the only banana flavor that tastes okay is a real banana (other than that, it's all esters and chemistry...).

Heck, I even sometimes want to hurl if I eat a real banana that is too ripe...ewwww!!

Last minute Q before the CC/VQ

So, do you start taking calories in right from the start or not? How long do you wait before you start the losing battle of trying to replenish your long lost calories?

Gene was saying its a good idea to carb up about 3 hours before the race. Some will be setting their alarms for the early hours to eat and then head back to head. As far as during this ride people that have done it can tell you but for my long rides I dont usually start taking in anything but water for atleast an hour. I think it mostly depends on your body since all of us have different levels of fitness.

Take in your calories about every 45-60 min. You do not want to deplete your energy stored cause it would take while to get it back, by then you would have BONKED.

Not so much as carb up, but if you are going to eat something in the morning, eat early so it's already digested.

Well the only calories I take in while riding are liquid. :drunk: So I guess I will wait like 30-45 minutes before I start drinking any of my mixes or anything. Maybe I will wait 30 minutes, then do a bottle every hour once I start. I will have calories in me when I start so they will hold me over for that first 30 minutes

Not sure if I will eat before the event. If I do it will be something like a hard boiled egg, oatmeal, and/or yogart.

During the event I will be consuming:
    Hammer Perpetuem
    Hammer Sustained Energy
Dates, Dried Cranberries, and/or fig bars

2 scoops of Unflavored Sustained Energy per 24oz bottle - ~1 bottle per hour
4-6 scoops of Orange Perpetuem in a small bottle - ~2 bottles during the event.

    Drop Bag:
    Can of V8
Can of trout in oil from TJ's
    Bannana

I stop drinking cold turkey for the whole month of February, not even a drop on this year's Super Bowl. My wife will be at the finish with cold Sierras which will give me the motivation I need. I am sooooooo over drinking iced tea with my pizza.

I'm going to follow Tim's advice and eat like a Iditarod sled dog. But I'm too lazy to cook. I figure 2 Wendy's Baconators should get me thru. That's 12 strips of bacon folks.

For VQ I plan on going through a total of 6 scoops of Perpetum, 6 scoops of Heed, 10-12 Gu's, and 1 banana. That will be more than I had last year.
