I know everyone is throwing a few punchy lines on the road bike.....

I train on a CR1 and overal just a great bike. Light enough for long climbs and also not so aggressive that it kills on Century rides.

Race version is the Addict which can be tough to casual ride. Made for speed only.

Would strongly recommend the CR1 for a good all-around bike. Had been riding some Euro stuff and Specialized bikes and Scott Bikes made me feel more at home.

Like previous comments. Do try and test ride one before dropping some big dollars.

    Good Luck.

"Join a local club so you are not buying a euro wannabe team kit. Looks cooler than just wearing plain cycling clothing and you'll get maybe a tad more respect on the road from other roadies."

Yeah for sure. Wearing wannabe team kits is so lame. I agree. Its all about looking cool and not being lame.
My goal when I go riding is to earn strangers respects as I ride on the opposite side of the road. I want them to know, I am not lame. I would never be caught dead in a wannabe euro kit, people that wear them should just quit cycling.

Ah hell I just wear whatever is clean. I weigh way more than I should when riding my road bike and with the gut hanging down around the pedals I'm not going to impress a single soul riding on the opposite side of me. lol That and I ride my roadie on platform pedals! I can't afford the pedal/shoe upgrade and since all of my mtn bikes are platform it's what I've stuck with. I guess I'll just live with everyones disrespect! :?:

As long as I'm riding...that's all that counts! :bang:

I was told because carbon absorb the shock of the road by flexing, it was similar to having 1" of suspension, therefore a smoother ride.

I'm gullible, go ahead and take my money, what do I know.

    Thanks for the info...

I order it through JensonUSA, great service. I was told if the bike didn't fit, I do not need to purchase it, I had my options.

I used a chart for a suggested fit of 54cm... I rode a a Scott Cr1 52cm, didn't feel right, also rode a Scott Speedster S40 54cm, this bike was a better size for me.

I planing on getting the bike professionally fitted at another bike shop, JensonUSA doesn't' provide this service.

Cool Bike. I thought about going that route, but I find no joy in riding around cars. Instead I came up with a local alternate to CHSP. I tried this out last Monday.

I won't say it was a great ride, but better than nothing.
I'll be glad when June rolls around and I can get my after work fix at CHSP.

I've been riding and racing my CR1 for a few years now...I LOVE the bike! It's stiff enough to be energy efficient when climbing or sprinting, yet not so stiff on the road that you bounce around uncomfortably. I've done a few 90+ rides and been plenty comfy.

My only concern with the bike has been the integrated rear derailer hanger, as replacing it would be a bit costly as well as difficult. However, it has survived being laid down or bumped quite a few times in crits, only having to adjust it back. Of course, I thought they changed the rear derailer hanger?!?!?!

Have fun riding with your friends, pretty soon you'll want to start pushing it more and more. Eventually, you'll end up at Como ;)

As for clothing, is it lame if you get the team clothing from the riders at the end of the season?

That is a very creative route, will try it some day when I have the time learn it. It reminds me of the Fully Loop.

i would go for the road specific pedal and shoe, from my experience. I use spds on my mtb and was using them for a while on my road, when I switched over there was a huge difference. It seems like there is such a larger platform that just feels nicer on longer rides.

Thanks for the input, I was leaning toward that direction. I was told to use MTB clipless by my LBS, I came to the conclusion that this wasn't good advice.

I am still trying to select the best pedals for the money, looking to spend no more them $80.00

So far these pedals seem to be a good choice.

I rather spend now then later to be comfortable on long rides.

are the bottom ones Shimano 105s? If so they work great. It will take some time to get use to clipping in but any pedal like that will be that way

    Check out this place.
    http://catalog.bicycleoutfittersindy.com/product-list/look-61/

I would strongly consider the Look Keo Sprint for $99.99
They are very nice pedals, I have that one and just ordered the Look Keo 2 Max for my new bike. It was $125. Awesome pedals, in my opinion will last longer then the Forte, I had that one also.

    Enjoy your new ride.

    Pedals Shoes:

I did the mtn shoe, and mtn pedal thing for awhile. CBs. Sure makes walking around easier than road shoes, that's for sure. But I got hot spots after long rides.

I went to Specialized Road shoes and shimano pedals first. Shimano Ultegras. Loved the engagement, very large platform. Got fitted last year ago and switched to Speedplays b/c the cleats allow for more fore/aft adjustment. More float too. Engagement I don't like as much, strange it's harder for me to get into these 2 sided speedplays than my old one-sided Shimanos. But that's not really that big a deal. The more cleat adjustment was more important.

As far as material and comfort? Many variables here like geometry/wheelbase and saddle too besides material. All I know is I have a bad back and I'm on a '05 carbon Roubaix now it's lighter, stiffer, and more comfy than my old road bike.

Enjoy the road. We all love the Mtn but the road is so much different in a good way.

These are the Shimano Ultegra PD-6700 SPD-SL Road Pedal - Are there any differences between the shiman0 105 and the Shimano Ultegra PD-6700? Found then both for about the same price.
