Wanna guide/explore the Rancho Cucamonga/Fontana mountains?

So, I've lived in this area my whole life, basically. And I know there's trails up there because some of you mentioned them. But, I have barely ridden any of them. I want to check out some of the trails in the hills over Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Fontana. I think it would be cool if we could come up with a "ride" either for geoladders or just for fun. Anybody else interested?

We could do a portion of the San Sevaine ride. Climb to where the fireroad T's then take the singletrack down. I haven't done it since the fires that way and it should still be makeable. I think it was about a 2.5 to 3 hour climb. There;s a lot of damage that is up there right now and the forestry service has asked that we don't go beyond that point as the fireroad has collapsed and in some places it is completely gone for over 500 feet, with nothing left, not even a small ledge.The singletrack coming down is sure fun though.

Lets head up san sevaine road starting in lytle creek...I know some more miles we can add on in the beginning instead that are a little more fun than climbing up that rocky fireroad....it includes a hike-a-bike section where the rain last year caused a flood and washed out a dam

hey pf ,is this up behind the water tanks beyond cherry ave? thats where i broke the ol' collar bone,cool single traks,built by mr bonk ? havent been there since.:clap:

Yep that's where it comes out. Yeah, I heard about your mishap and rode it the very next week. Mostly done by Mr. Bonk and I've done some maintenance a few years ago. I seen where you crashed at the last part of the ride, in a ditch or was it a big rut? Anyways if you want we could plan it, just name the date and time. Considering most of us live close by I'm not opposed to an early start time say, 7-7:30?

Jose from the part I know this could easily be done on a ss, there's nothing steep on the climb, just fireroad type stuff. But the descent would be better on a squishy as there are a couple rock gardens and a few jumps along the way, but a hardtail would still be okay.

Well, I wanna see what dstepper has in mind re: Strawberry Peak or SART. If we do either of those this coming weekend, then I want push back a San Sevaine ride until next weekend or after. My daughter's 3rd bday party is on June 3rd so that complicates things, too. But, I'd be up for an early start as well.

Anytime, maybe an after work ride? i don't think we could get to the top, before it gets dark but we could try it.

Possible. I usually leave work about 4:30 and could be able to leave for a ride by 5:30, riding by 6:00. You'd know the distance better than me. Remember, I climb sloooowly. We could always bring lights, I guess.

:lol: Yeah, I'm twitterpated when it comes to finding new trails. Man, every time I look at those hills there, I think, "Now why aren't there any trails up there for us to ride?" They're nice hills. Why can't we ride them?

I always thought about just building my own trails...i live about 3 miles down the road from where san sevaine road starts in lytle creek so im always on those fire roads...i got a 10 mile loop i do from my house that takes about an hour, but im gonna need to add on more i just gotta find some dirt roads to connect the fire roads i want .....maybe i should try and find out who i should contact to see if we can build trails up there somewhere....there are also some nice mountains over by the next exit down the road, not as tall so getting some single track going in there would be easier...i've ridden there with no trails and there is some pretty steep stuff that is tons of fun, with little rock drops at the bottom that are really easy ( i did them on some junky hardtail last time)

I was on the fireroad on the lytle creek side earlier this week (or was it last?). I want to ride the fireroad and drop down to the road and then ride the road back home. I just don't know the area well enough. But, then, that's part of the reason I want to ride it with others. Maybe some time next week.

ummm....the fire road that i used today had a sign saying something about U.S. forestry land or something and it was like flood management something or other and it said trespassers assume all responsibility if they get hurt or something (it didnt say they would be prosecuted so i guess you can ride back there and they dont care). There is a gate on the other end. I don't know what it says on there because I have never read it. It goes to all the telephone pole things so maybe its edison who maintains the road (The lower parts were freshly bulldozed, but the higher parts were over grown so just riding through there will get a bit of a single track going and its steep and fun to go down. I hit like 27mph coming down it with it being over grown and having no trail just to give you an idea of how steep it is).

That sounds exactly like where I was riding the other day. I've seen the signs but didn't look at them closely enough to see who managed the land. I only noted that it didn't say "No Trespassing - Prosecutors will be violated." Or whatever.

I sent an email to the County Land Use office. I see that some of that land is controlled by the county and it appears to be zoned for recreational use. Maybe we can get some permits and then some of the guys around here that know how can teach us how to build some single track up there. :bang:

come on we know how to build single track, its easy, just cut into the mountain to put it on the side, coming down forget trying to make switch backs, just point the tire downhill and hope you dont die

:lol: Dude, I'm married, with children. People depend on me. I can't be so foolhardy as to simply hope I don't die. That's crazy talk! Nah, dude, I'm a XC rider. I like switchbacks. And, as to making trails, I guess I should have spoken only for myself and said I didn't know how. 'Sides, we could use the help, I imagine.
