As some of you might have heard. Walmart now carries the infamous $150 Fixie dubbed, the "Mongoose Cachet". #-o

I hate hipsters in general so I was happy to see crappy products that are made for them... hopefully it'll break on them during a critical mass ride!

I looked around to see what else walmart has and did you guys know that they have a 29er?!?! The "Thruster"!!!

If the carbon road bike is out of your price range, they also make aluminum road bikes for $150! #-o

Did you check out the weights on some of those?!

That 29er? 38 pounds! Must be steel. And the front disc/rear rim brake setup? Must be a trials 29er. Yeah, that's it.

And the FS Goose? 46! Sounds like a full on DH sled to me!

Take it easy on the walmart bikes. They got two wheels they're good to go. I'm sure your bike is a pile compared to my bike or somebody elses. and it's 29ers not 29ners.

I would not discourage anyone from buying a bike wether it be from Walmart or the Path. The love for two wheels and pedals knows no make or model it's about learning the basics for those intersted and willing to challenge themselves physically. If I met someone on one of the aforementioned bikes I would advise them the Walmart or big box store bike will only limit them.

Thanks for saying that in a nicer way than I could have.

Just a note though, the chachet is a single speed; not a fixie.

Someone completed the Rwanda ride last weekend on a "walmartish" bike. I remember looking at it and sayin, "man that thing lasted for 50 miles." I guess it means they arent as bad as the rep they are automatically given. That being said, I would still rather build my own bike from a frame and parts.

Man, I was just poking a little fun at the weights. Jeez...lighten up guys.

I know, I know, everybody has to start somewhere. But c'mon, be honest, a lot of you were thinking the same thing.

I was thinking that I hope I never have to ride something like that, but I wasn't thinking that I hope it breaks on someone like earlier stated #-o

I don't think walmart bikes necessarily break in the catastrophic way you describe. Yes, their components are crappy and can't be adjusted easily, or maybe their parts might stop working. This is a big box retailer. I expect those bikes to be overly built for safety, completely useless in functionality/serviceability, and ridiculously heavy. If that's all you could afford, why not? Better to be a biker on a walmart bike than another driver on the road.

That is the shipping weight which includes packaging....so 46#shipping weight = 40# bike.....lol

and I was just pointing out that my 1st bike is the highest end mtn bike at Wal Mart sells....not the "gardener's bikes" you normally see ridden on the streets.....lol

For those that had good/decent experiences with walmart (type) bikes, I'm glad you did. But as far as my limited experience with them, they suck...

There use to be a kid in my neighborhood that had a walmart mountain bike that never worked. The brakes would rub no matter how you adjusted them and shifting on it was a joke. He wanted me to fix it but instead I ended up giving him my old BMX bike.

My dad also picked one up awhile back. He kept asking me to adjust it and fix it and no matter what I did he wasn't satisfied with it. I ended up giving him my old beater hardrock and he loves it now and rides it everyday. I just feel sorry for those that pick up one of those bikes and think that's what real bikes are suppose to feel like and totally get discouraged. Too many of my friends "tried" cycling in the past on a cheap bike and then moved on because they had bad experiences and are closed minded about it. But once I get them out on decent quality bikes they all get hooked!

The cheapest tubeset I build with costs more than the most expensive bike they carry.

Guess I won't be making the big time!

and thank the gods, since Walmarts business model is a collapsing one designed to drive their vendors out of business. Bad company.

If $100 bucks is all you got for a bike, walmart is the place to go

    bike= 2 wheels

I think is stupid for someone to look down at bikes from places like this.

BTW, that fixie, on the first pic dont look that bad, if you loose that crankset
