Vision Quest & Counting Coup

JamR,

FS/SS?  Do I sense Kona A or this going to be one of those old URT designs.  I'm curious to see how you're going to solve the chain-growth issue with FS/SS.

Is anyone riding Blackstar this weekend?  I'd like to ride part of the counting coup and start training.

Actually I'm just using a Jamix XLT frame I've had sitting around for 2 years (never built it up). I'm just going to run a rear der with no cable, like I'm currently running on my 3 speed. I think it should perform pretty well. If not I can always get a Kona A and swap out the parts.

If you are thinking CC give the VQ some extra consideration. Both rides are hard. The VQ is longer, obviously, but very doable. Especially if you get in good enough shape for the CC.

I signed up for the early start on the CC. I rode last year and did not finish :( Even not finishing was worth it though. I made the first cutoff at the bottom of the motorway, then just crawled up Maple to four corners and stopped. This year will be VERY different. :bang:

Jamis XLT huh? Wow that's going to be a 5" travel SS! Post some pics when you're done. So I guess you're not too worried about it bobbing too much when you hammer out of the saddle. I always thought those VPP bikes like the Blur or Intense would make excellent FS-SS.

The shock has a full lock out for the climbing, so it should make a pretty nice SS.

ok, tell me the truth....i started mountain biking maybe a month ago...what is the probability (for any of you statisticians) that i can train hard enough and get fast enough to finish the CC?

I just registered for the CC race. I need to start training also, so if anyone ever wants to do a long Sat. ride hit me up.

I'd say try the Blackstar-Silverado loop. If you can do that without serious pain, you can probably at least get ready for the CC.

Yup, you must be able to do Blackstar to the MOtorway in 4:30 if you do the early start. You then pretty much have the rest of the day to get up Maple Springs to the PEak and down Upper/Lower Holy Jim.

Break it donw into 2 rides. Go out and do Blackstar o the Motorway(22 miles). See how you feel. Next time, go out and ride Maple Springs to the Peak(12.5 miles up). Or do Maple Springs to the Peak and then down HOly JIm. Do it as a shuttle or ride all around.

We have been doing the last ride above, but riding our bikes back to Silverado via Santiago Canyon road. The extra mileage and road riding will help for the VQ.

What is the milage for that ride? MP -> Santiago -> HJ -> Silverado -> MP :-k
It sounds like a good ride.

According to Warriors Society there is still room left to sign up for the VQ/CC

Vision Quest - 34 spots left (150 total)
Counting Coup - 23 spots left (100 total)

"cough" rob & craig "cough"

It'd be wayy cool to get some more STR riders doing this

Ended up deing about 42 miles. It was nice because we were able to stop at O'Niel Park and refill water towards the end of the ride.
