Been doing some riding locally since the Move. I now live in Vegas and missing all the riding/racing action back home. I been riding more road then MTB just for the sake of time efficiency. Quick 20-23mile loop in a hour helps me satisfy 400mile monthly quota. My old team helped me with donating a SS MTB since i had to sell my Giant in witch i miss very much. I made the move for the means of family and work related reason's. One (problem) thing i noticed around here- Riding/Strava and or the Two wheel community seems to be behind vs. what im costume back home. LBS were a stone throw away vs. 15+miles away. No Path, Fullerton or RnR bike like shops. Also there are no racing organization like OTH or Gnarly Harding TT's. All-tho im doing what i can to stay in shape with riding and Gym attendance to keep up with all you guys = ) But not the same. Red Rock loop is 30miles that can be done in 1.5hours at a decent push http://app.strava.com/activities/162498700 Mt. Charleston- Nothing but a Climb, you can hit 40miles mph down hill http://app.strava.com/activities/159634402 Blue Diamond- None of these trails dont have much on Socal Riding = ) http://app.strava.com/activities/168485546 These pictures are from over look point. These Mountains are not climbable like Santa Anas, they are Jagged and straight up = ) In Closing, I miss Everyone and wish to have the trails at hand. I miss Racing and doing some damage on the trails, Whiting will never be the same = ) Enjoy and appreciate your LBS and Trails. Cheers and thank you all....
i love red rock, ever time there i dont have a bike - usually hike or climb rocks with the kids. Great place for the photography and your photos are great. Further up the street like 15 miles is an old west style city, forget the name, but there might be some riding up there as well, and its cooler.
Selfie of the Year-haha Local Morning Ride Loops. Not Much other than rough terrain to climb. I still have the Mustache = )
I grew up in Vegas and many of my good friends still live there, so I am already aware of how good we have it in So Cal. Not only the shops and racing, but with the weather Its not too hot. Its not too cold, and there's rarely any real wind. Glad to see you are doing good and making the most of it. OTH isn't the same without you out there setting the pace!
Have you checked out the trails at Bootleg Canyon? I love the XC (green and blue) trails over there....its not all DH gnar....definitely go check those out......
Yeah, the scenery is different and the weather can be brutal, but some of my all time favorite rides are in the Red Rock/ Blue Diamond area. It's all what you make of it.
Talk to Rob Hutchinson at Las Vegas Cyclery. He runs a mid-week race series. PM me and I'll shoot you a link.
Had no idea you left our little piece of heaven, Mario. At least that's one less CC poacher...Haha...I kid I kid! Good for you making the best of your situation. I'm not too far behind you. Meaning, I gotta leave OC for awhile. Thank gawd I have running as a back up or it looks like I'll become a local at Sycamore! Did you hear that Denmo?? : p
Wow man great pics! Its gotta be beyond hot out there right now. I did Red Rock this January with my girlfriend. We did the Blue Diamond loop twice...once starting from McGhie's and once from the Late Night trail head. Then we did Bear's Best by Las Vegas Cyclery...GF did not like that place. First thing we noticed were the rock were all square! Riding through the red dirt was a pretty cool. Everybody we met there was more than beyond nice. On day one we met a local at McGhie's and he showed us around...guy was beyond cool. The next day we stopped and asked a few riders on the trail for directions (got way lost and losing daylight) and all of them were more than willing to help out. One couple gave us their map...and another offered to give us a ride back to our car. Loved riding in Vegas...might bring the full squish bikes on our next trip out there and check out Bootleg. Bikes and buffet in Vegas!
Oh, nonsense. I'll inform the security guards along the Orange Curtain that you're to be allowed back in periodically to ride.
Red Rock Scenic Drive- Little road ride this morning through the scenic route, 13 miles extra on top of the standard Charleston loop. I did not see the advantage of buying a annual pass, Adventure pass has better options. I think its more bike friendly then anything. There is one section the locals call- the Wall, i thought it was similar to the "WALL" on MD, but on the Road-(kinda like Modjeska). I think i giggled on the way up Via big ring = ) Anyhow, not like back home, but good enough to spike the heart rate. Its one way traffic, great for everyone, less stress. All in all Worth the trip to enjoy the quick scenery. However, the Mars red wall of boulders and jagged landscape was impressive. Tons of activities you can do in one day. 6bucks for day pass and you can have fun with family. Great location for pictures and horse back riding. http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/lvfo...al_areas/red_rock_nca/driving_directions.html Riders prospective- http://app.strava.com/activities/188027416 Top view down into the Valley First car pull out spot for sight seeing or Rock climbing Phone Camera did not do Justice of the Vibrant color this image has to offer.
Climbers in SoCal, make that everywhere, have Red Rocks envy all winter long...maybe somebody needs to expand his repertoire? The goods in RR/Calico is the climbing. Some of the best and most varied winter climbing in the world, definitely in the US. Get some shoes and hook up with the community. You have an unbelievable playground in your back yard...
