This race needs its own thread judging on the turnout it's expected to have. I understand there will be some course work being done, still waiting to hear from some of the guys in charge of that so I can head over and help out and put some pics up here.

Should be rocking Team Velosport/ShoAir kit by this race if not sooner. :bang:

who else will be out there?

this is one of the best places to race at if it's your first race or spectating. I grew up riding at Bonelli, it's awesome to have semi local races up here.

Will be there in my Shoair threads!! Had to miss this year's Sagebrush because of family obligations (last years was a blast!) but will not miss Bonelli! The management folks from Team Shoair are on STR so we will be hearing more from them no doubt. As always I'm expecting they will be following up a great Sagebrush with a fantastic Bonelli race.

Great new shorter route with a big amount of fan / viewing possibities and a great amount of new singletrack. European style short loop in an urban setting. Believe the singletrack is already done.

Link to the geoladders posting of the loop is on www.uscup.net.

My only question is how many laps per category?

    GO SHOAIR!

I will be there. The rain has really hurt in shaping and maintaining the course layout. Hopefully it will be dry the week leading to the event.

    The venue is beautiful.

I will look into the laps and post what I find out. For Cat3, its easy; 1 lap

According to geoladders, the course is roughly 6 miles per lap, right? Wouldn't you expect Pro / Cat 1 to do 4 laps, Cat 2 to do 3 and Cat 3 to do 2 laps? 1 lap for Cat 3 and 2 laps for Cat 2 seems a little short. That's barely an hour race time for cat 2 and probably 40 min or less for Cat 3.

However, last year was only 2 laps for Cat 2, and the fast guys did it in a shade over 1 hr.

The pro course is different than everyone else. It's a shorter course so definitely more than 4 laps for them. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the pro men will be doing 8 laps. For everyone else, what is said above looks likely.

This is all I could find:

2010 brings yet another new course to Bonelli Park. Redesigned for the Pro XCT, this 4.5 mile course is very spectator friendly. The Cat 1, 2 & 3 course will incorporate the Pro Course but will be longer per lap.

    2010 Kenda Cup West-Bonelli Amatuer XC -- 6.1 mi. 670 ascent http://www.geoladders.com/gps_route_racer.php?route_id=32611

Has anyone contacted the promoter? I just sent an email to [email protected].

I was riding around the park yesterday, some kenda tape has already been laid out. Lots of areas still very muddy, caused alot of "out and back's."

The tape was there to try to maintain the course. Talked to a couple of the ShoAir higher ups that are helping with the course, and it appears that they're trying to wait out the rain that's coming. Major course work should probably be done at the beginning of next week.

I've been doing these races for about 5 years and somehow they seem to get shorter every year -- and it's not that I am getting fast. One year at Bonelli it was about 1 hr 45 min for the sport class. Now they are around 1 hour. Doesn't seem worth it anymore to pay $50 to ride my bike for 1 hour. I wish they could add more laps and make the races at least 2 hours for each category. Also a sho-air rep had mentioned that they were doing three 6-hour races for 2010 but too bad it doesn't look like this is happeneing.

I too will be racing next sunday in my sho-air kit! I rode the 2009 course last summer and it was FUN! Easy enough that people probably wont be getting hurt (too badly at least) but definitely technical enough to reward those with skills. Although this year's course is not the same as last year a lot of it are the same so it will definitely be fun!

I am partially retarded and all however, can someone help me out with the GeoLadders course link low-down. It has no option to download it and watching a dot going around in circles on my computer screen wont help me when I am out at the course.

    Is it just me?

    Cheers,

    C.K.

Just ride with someone who knows the area. I turned on "satelite view," watched the dot, and I'm pretty sure I know exactly what the course will be. There's a lot of Bonelli locals on STR.

Still seems pretty retarded though, no? A hand drawn map on a used napkin would be more effective.... Doesn't seem very copesetic to me, kinda cheesy & lame really. Oh well.

Does the course start in the same place?

I took a little spin out there this afternoon. Still quite wet and sticky-muddy in spots. The new sections should be fun after they're fully cut in. Unfortunately there's still much work to be done- the rain is not helping. I particularly enjoyed the rocky section on the north ridge section of the course.

Course starts the same, but doesn't drop all the way down to the freeway on the backside. When you're on geoladders change the view to Satellite view and zoom in a little. You'll probably recognize the trails that way (assuming you raced there last year).
