Upcoming meeting: Friends of the Pacific Electric

This is a great rail to trail project that hopes to make a multi-purpose trail that links Claremont, Montclair, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana and Rialto. Important meeting coming up on the 1st of December.

WHY: get involved with a critical trail advocacy project

Background Information:
This is a rail-trail conversion project currently underway that will stretch
from Claremont to Rialto along the old Pacific Electric Railway line. The
purpose of the trail is to provide recreational opportunities for cyclists,
pedestrians, runners and equestrians. Trail users would enjoy exercise,
convenient access to jobs, public facilities and shopping, while exploring
the history and culture of the area.

When complete this will form an important transportation link for bicycle
users in the Inland Empire. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help
shape the way our community will look in 5, 10, 20 years. Rail Trails are
good for our community, our health, economy, and our our environment. Your
help is needed to make this dream a reality!

The old railroad tracks have already been removed along most of the route, leaving the rail bed material (crushed stone, some dirt sections). When finished the route will be paved, like the 605 River Trail, or the Santa Ana River Trail that runs from Yorba Linda to the beach. Some cities have started the paving process already, for example, there is a finished section in Fontana.

There are completed sections of it in Upland also, it looks nice, and i do see a lot of cyclists on it.

It's nice to see unused land converted to something useful for everyone.

anyone know how many miles it will be? that would be great...im tired of riding on baseline because of the sections without a bike lane and the idiot drivers trying to run me off the road

21 miles for the section described above, additionally, there is the possibility of connecting to a seperate 6.9 mile future project from Claremont to San Dimas. So that's 28 miles or so...

For interested people, these meetings will now take place on the First Thursday of each month at the time/place indicated above until further notice.

So next meeting Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 6PM at the Goldy Lewis Community Center as before.

Just a bump with an update for interested parties. Next meeting will be Thursday, February 2 at 6PM. Meetings will take place in the break room at the Rancho Cucamonga REI store, located in the new Foothill/Day Creek shopping center, until further notice.

Might I suggest that anyone with a question about the trail and/or meetings please email [email protected] so that I can respond to you in a prompt fashion.

Also, a website has been established for the project. It's pretty thin at the moment, but I'll be updating it with meeting times and locations and news, so please check there as well:
